This place does not take care of their pets. I had seen a review about a dog with bleach burns and thought it was crazy. I went and saw multiple dogs with chemical burns. some were also extremely matted. I expected better. The staff is friendly, but was appalled when I saw them laughing and tugging on a dog they were walking. I understand dogs walking in opposite directions, but she was tugging on the poor thing pretty aggressively. This staff is not as nice as they seem. They’re cold hearted and have no empathy on a dog who can’t defend themselves.. do better

Normally I would have to say that I thought very highly of the Ojai animal shelter but unfortunately one individual particularly has broken my 2 daughters hearts and mine as well not only because our precious cats Steven a beautiful black haired,, big yelloq/ green eyes was a loving, talkative snuggle buddy and was my daughter Sally's inseparable companion as well as our super smart, huge Golden eyes, sort haired grey and white strips, tiny but trick Master. My daughter jennea found him alone at a ranch, tiny, malnourished and still required to be bottle fed. Pepe was nursed back to health a was a pleaser! Jennea actually taught Pepe to sit, stay and wait b4 he would sit up and enjoy his treats. Steven and Pepe were in short term care of a woman whome I thought could be trusted while my daughters and I were in the process of moving but instead and without my consent she surrendered them to the shelter..when I was made aware of this cruel and malicious behavior I immediately began emailing, calling and was not getting any positive assistance from a particular person who was the person that apparently handles situations like mine. Enail after email informing her that Steven and Pepe NEVER should have been there in the first place and they have a family that loves them and wants them returned. Everything I was told to do to prove that they were mine, she disregarded and both Steven and Pepe were adopted by new people even though I begged, cried, sent pictures of my daughters with them and now we still can't believe the cruel and plain out wrong behavior of both our cat sitter and the women who owes us a huge apology and to make right by returning Steven and Pepe to us.

Was a sad day for our family, but these ladies there helped us through it "thank you ladies", great experience.

Came by looking to adopt and not allowed to go see the animals. So sad. We’re a nice family looking for a pet.

Clean and humane. This is a wonderful facility. They have fewer pups than pre-pandemic because people have adopted them. (More time at home...) Well managed and staffed. And many great volunteers. They have kitties and horses too. No idea how adoptions go with ponies. Give a call or check their email about current (covid) policies and procedures. My visit was just to drop off old linens in their wishiing well. Can't miss it. It's a donation area out front. They can always use leashes, collars, bedding, bowls and stuffed animals.

Amazing people! Super caring. Perfect detail on care instructions. Very affordable. Seem to roll with difficult situations like the distancing and even a power outage with grace and professionalism. I hear they have a bird that sings happy birthday.

This place is absolutely perfect. The only bad thing I have to say is I wish I could take them all home. The staff is really nice and the volunteer program is great. There is even a junior volunteer program for ages 10+ I think and adult volunteers are 18+. They are always kind and very helpful with any questions or problems. They will help you find solutions. 100/10 would love to work there. ????

I was thinking about adopting a dog from here but the requirements are a lot. They want proof of mortgage, meet and greet with dogs, and inspection of your house. I went twice because I thought I could adopt right away(I was set on adopting a dog but decided to wait) . I wouldn't have mind going with this whole process but I think they are hypocritical due to the fact that they make you go through this process yet the dog I wanted to adopt a volunteer didn't wash away the bleach correctly at her kennel and caused her bleach burns.

Unbelievable place. Highly recommend this place for animal adoptions. I can't say enough great things about this place! The staff and facility care for the animals as if they were their own pets.

The people at the Humane Society of Ventura are generous with their time and kind to the animals in their care. I truly appreciate their services and dedication to animals and their people.

Kind kennel staff . Unfortunately the older lady in the front office is consistantly rude and unhelpuful. She is more focused on her attitude than the animals she should be helping to find a home. Not the face the humane society would want to represent their mission

The shelter is lovely, however the staff is not welcoming or knowledgeable.
