Went to get my pet checked and received medicine and got his blood drawn to do some tests. Lady on the phone was rude but I let that go. A different tech came out to get my cat and she was nice. Then, a different tech came out to give my pet back and they were very brief and short with me and didn’t explain much, they just told me when to give him the medicine. I was ok with that although I wish they gave me more information about what happened during his visit. When I got home, I didn’t know that they wrapped his leg and they didn’t mention it to me at all or tell me when I should take it off. The next day, his leg ended up getting swollen. I’ve read that that could happen but the experience I had with them already felt off in the first place and I just feel like they didn’t really care like what the reviews have said. Wish I had a different experience and that they showed a little bit more compassion.

I moved here from out of state and immediately had to find a surgeon for my dog. He had recently had orthopedic surgery with my previous vet and there appeared to be a complication. I had consultations with three vets, including two specialists in SF. I ultimately chose OVG and am very happy to have done so. The front desk has always been polite and efficient. The techs have been knowledgeable and prompt as well. Dr. Ned really went above and beyond to figure out a solution to our problem, personally went over everything with me at every step, and clearly works around the clock to deliver the best care he can. I'm relieved to have found my new vet, will gladly drive the distance to stay a patient here, and am specially happy to support a private practice.

New to the area, no established vet when my 14 year old BFF got really sick and was unable to recover, Oakdale Vet was so kind to my pup and me in the process of coming to life's end. I just picked up my pup and they again were so kind and provided such a beautiful box and card so that I will have Chipper when I relocate again. He is home for Christmas and I am so grateful for the kindness, compassion, and care that Oakdale Vet group gave at this very difficult time.

I cannot say enough about the quality and professionalism that I've received at OVG. My fur baby Zoë had torn her CCL and had to get TPLO surgery. I got quotes all around the Bay Area ranging from 5k-10k for the one knee. Its a one day procedure and typically the pups can go home that day if all goes well. I called OVG to get a quote and they had a standard price depending on the size plate that they use. It was also an all inclusive price, which means all follow-up visits/x-rays/meds were included. They are they only practice I called that had that, everywhere else I would've had to pay the price of the x-rays and a standard office visit fee. With that in mind, even though OVG is about 1.5 hours away from me, I went with them! They beat out all pricing here in the Bay area and had more things "included" in their pricing. I also really appreciated the quick timing of when they were able to perform the surgery. Other places said they wouldn't be able to perform surgery for about a week to two weeks out. And anyone who knows about torn CCLs knows that the longer you wait the higher chance that your pup has on developing arthritis..I literally called around 11am on a Tuesday and the receptionist asked if I could go in that day for a consultation. I told her how far out I was and she booked me for 3pm. When I got there, they took the x-rays and I spoke to Dr. Ned (who BTW is fantastic). He showed me the x-rays and explained to me very clearly what was going on. Knowing that I drove all they way out there, he offered to keep her overnight to have surgery the next morning AND offered to keep her until Saturday, this was super helpful since I work all week and I wouldn't have been able to take another half day off to get her during the week. I've had such a fantastic experience with Dr. Ned and his staff. I'm so grateful for the professionalism, sense of urgency and thoughtfulness of their actions. I pray that Zoë doesn't hurt herself again BUT in the event that she does, I will be driving all the way out there to see Dr. Ned again. I'm proud to say that Z is almost 100%. She's running around now, getting the zoomies and going crazy lol. Even though she now has no restrictions, I make sure to try to watch that she doesn't jump off the bed, considering that's how she tore her CCL last time. She's jumped off a few times already BUT trying to train her to use her stairs. Anyways, I know this is a super long review and not sure how many people will actually read it all the way through but if you've gotten this far and are thinking of going to OVG for TPLO surgery, don't hesitate. GO! Thanks for everything OVG. ???????? Zoë and I are super grateful for your business.

Dr Ned and crew are great! Two thumbs up for caring, quality pet care. Be prepared for paying top dollar for x-rays but it's been worth it for the exceptional care and experience. Thanks for helping us save and making our golden have the best life possible through his fight with cancer. Viv, John and Parker

We began a search for an orthoepic surgeon with TPLO surgical experience after our golden retriever tore her cranial cruciate ligament (CCL) fourteen weeks ago Over 20 years ago, when our other Golden Retriever tore her CCL, I was fortunate to have lived next door to a prominent University Orthopedic Surgeon who I consulted with whenever I had an issue related to our dog. I will share with you what criteria he said he would use in selecting a surgeon for a dog needing TPLO surgery: 1. Surgeon’s Experience - The Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy (TPLO) was developed almost 30 years ago and now is routine for veterinarian clinics that have an orthopedic surgeon on staff. He said that one of the important factors in selecting a surgeon is one who performs the TPLO surgery on a routine basis. While large university animal care hospitals or clinics may be impressive in size in terms of the staff of veterinarians, he emphasized that size is irrelevant is selecting your TPLO veterinarian. What is important is how many years has the surgeon been performing the surgery and is he/she a “traveling” surgeon or dedicated to the clinic? 2. Post Operation Care – Also of concern is the post-op surgery care team who will care for your pet. Many clinics have a post-operation team that works at that clinic and cares for your pet from the day of surgery until your pet has fully recovered. If there is an issue post-surgery, the surgeon that performed the surgery will be there to care for your dog and consult with you. For most clinics that have a traveling surgeon, he/she will not be there for your follow-up visits. He said to ask the following question: Does the team including the surgeon that performed the surgery present in all of your post-op visits? In many large clinics or teaching hospitals, your post-op team will not be staffed by the same team that performed the surgery. 4. Cost - He emphasized that high cost TPLO clinics have NO relationship to the success of the surgery. When you research your various options, you will see the cost for the identical TPLO surgery ranging from $3,500 to $12,000. In my research in all of Northern California, I found that paying more for the same surgery had no relationship to the above criteria; in fact, larger clinics simply charged more and did not meet the above criteria that I believed was most critical to the success of the TPLO surgery. After extensive research throughout Northern California and reference calls with pet owners, I came across Oakdale Veterinary Group, who met all of the criteria for the TPLO surgery. The only negative was that Oakdale was a 5-hour drive from our home, but this was not a factor in our decision to have OVG perform the surgery. After 14 weeks from the date of the surgery our golden retriever is back in the water, running on the trails, and playing with us daily. We are so grateful to Dr. Ned Trathan and his entire team who personally cared for our dog throughout the entire process. We highly recommend Dr. Ned and his team and cannot say enough great things about his surgical abilities and his staff that supports him. If you would like to reach out to us to discuss our experience and/or decision process, we would gladly speak with you.

Great place for your pets medical care. They are efficient and knowledgeable and Dr. Zifer loves Blanca and is quick to answer all your questions and with no run around. She is very honest and straight to the point. Just the way it should be. I don't like not being able to be with my pet during the exam and think they could approach this protocol in a different fashion, but it is temporary.

Amazing group! Dr. Ned and the team here are wonderful. I have a large American Bulldog mix about 120 pounds and was going back and fourth with a couple places trying to figure out if surgery was going to work to help my dog with his torn ACL/CCL because of his size. Dr. Ned broke everything down in a much more simple way and expressed confidence in his work and being able to help. Before i brought my dog in we could barley go on walks without him limping and couldn't run around and play off leash. We are now about 6 months post surgery and my dog has a new life! Hasn't had any issues post surgery and is now back to running around, going on hikes and just back to being him self. Thank you again to the Dr. Ned and the team for making a big difference and if are looking for second opinion on your dog don't hesitate to reach out.

The staff and doctors are all so patient and loving towards our 13 yr old mini schnauzer. I truly felt like I was leaving her with family that cared for her like I do. They had great communication throughout her surgery as well. I’m so grateful for the military discount on certain things too because without we would have been in a tight spot. We truly appreciate those businesses that appreciate us and OVG is the only place we will take our furbaby while we live here. I’ve already recommended OVG to others- including my dental assistant!

I used to have great experiences with this office but within the last 6 months or so, something changed and the staff to include the owners wife was very rude to me. I had just spend a large sum of money to have my dogs broken tooth pulled which I really couldn't afford but because I care about my fur baby, I took care of her. When all was said and done, I asked the vet tech If I could renew my dogs heart worm preventative and I was told no, that I had to spend more money to have her tested for heart worm again. I asked the vet tech in the parking lot to please get the manager and another tech was sent out to me who said the same thing. I was simply told the manager was to "busy" too come out and talk with me. So now, I found another vet who will not charge me for a test every time I need to get her heart worm medication. I can simply sign a waiver and just pay for the medication. If I give my dog the medication when I am supposed to and its supposed to work, then why do I need to pay for a test?? The staff is very short and dismissive and when I ask to speak to a manager, that's who I want to speak to and if ones not available, I would have waited until one was. This happened a few months back but I am still pretty livid about how I was treated as a customer who paid their outrageous prices. I also wrote the office a very sincere letter in which I was completely ignored. I see this office has mostly good reviews and that's great for those of you who have had superb treatment but unfortunately, I I wish I could say I received the same treatment.
