This Review is NOT 3.5 Stars as it the system makes it appear. It is 2 Stars for the fact there even IS a shelter. Deducted 3 Stars for the way Staffers Treat People! Lost dog overnight and while posting signs this am our neighbor(whom I didn't know until now) told me he had JUST dropped the dog off at this shelter. I immediately drove to pick him up. After being completely ignored for about 15 minutes along with everyone else standing in line, I asked for assistance and was referred to signage posted all over the walkway. Ultimately, I was able to explain that my dog had just been dropped off 20 minutes earlier; I was left standing there thinking they were going to retrieve him. After another 10 minutes a different gal, Jackie?, came to tell me someone would be calling me about the microchip and rabies shot, which hadn't been completed yet. I informed her that we already have an appt. this Tuesday for that and I just want to take him home. She left me waiting for someone else to call from inside with how they would be proceeding. An hour later I have not received that phone call. Meanwhile, the crowd lined up, waiting for help, was very rudely informed by a woman, a large disgruntled "Officer Dogg" who happened to be walking by that they had to call for an appt. and could expect to be on hold for at least 45 minutes. She didn't even have the respect to look people in the face or use kind language. I cannot imagine these people behind closed doors. Sad, Sad, situation! To those of you that work at this organization, we are ALL busy, and tired, and stressed, and hungry! Some of us worked at the hospital for 14 hours yesterday then spent 3 hrs, until midnight, going door to door and driving the neighborhood looking for our pet. We fielded calls at all hours of the night from people calling re. our social media posts about our lost pet. We haven't eaten, brushed our teeth and spilled our only cup of coffee in our laps trying to rush to pick up our pet. Short staffed is NOT an excuse to be mean. Not one individual that was waiting to be helped by you this am was anything less than kind and patient, you can easily return the human condition, kindness! Joy Kersey, Shiloh's grandma.

I’m sorry but isn’t it the shelters job to take in stray pets? Neighbor just found a dog. Had a chip check done. No chip. Drove all the way up to the shelter to Be told they can’t take the dog, they are full. What now? Let the dog run free? Get HBC? I’m so confused. These are services provided by tax dollars. Sorry they aren’t enough, but this is the job of a shelter.

The people that work here should be ashamed of themselves telling people to release kittens in an alley. What’s the point of this being an animal shelter if they refuse to take in stray animals because they’re already healthy? Then to make matters worse they said if they do decide to take the kittens in they’re just going to euthanize them. They currently have a flu outbreak in there cat section which tells me they aren’t capable of properly caring for the animals that are already in their care. Also, I met a man here whose service animal was adopted out and now he has to file a lawsuit. I would say this place deserves to be shut down but what would happen to the animals that are already stuck in this horrible place.

I’m sorry I have experience bad business I love this shelter but some of the employees are rude and careless I went there because one of the workers told me it would not be a problem to get a kitten kit this kitten one kitten needed help and we were turned away just because I’m from the city Compton this is was sad to beg for help and no concern at all she wouldn’t even look at the cat Sent us away with the kitten sick so I went to another in Downey and they said they don’t service the city but they were still helping me because they could see the car needed the care I know places have different rules but common sense should have played a role. I hate Comming here know because they will let ur animal die this has happen before and before I left there facility the animal passed away and I just neede advise but Comming from Compton allowed me to not receive anything not even advise This was a very bad experience being that Compton is right next door it shouldn’t have been to big of a problem

This Shelter mission is great but it’s staff and employees are so rude and unprofessional so much unneeded attitude for no reason. Hopefully the fur babies there get a good home but the staff (older white ginger head lady) hope you guys step on

If I could give a 0 for customer service I would in order to rate a company you will need to speak with a rep which I have not gotten the chance to do so I had an appt at 1 got there at 12:47 to be exact and it’s now 1:34 I just left it’s a terrible business when the door open you could have clearly seen that employees was just sitting in the hall doing nothing again this is a sad business

My friend adopted a dog from here. I see him nearly daily. He is such a cool dog. Mack makes us SO happy - he has a lot of character and love. He loves to hug us. He never barks on walks and even has kissed a dog.???? Mack was assessed throughout his 3 month stay there and my friend was given all his paperwork and a FREE vet visit. We are SO grateful they took great care of him and kept him happy during his stay. Thank you

Hate this place! Found some puppies in my apartment complex and tried to show my kids to do the right, And we were treated super horrible! Don’t bring animals here because if they treated us bad I can just imagine what they do to the animals!

Rude and insensitive staff. Unprepared to handle covid, the community its supposed to serve, and fails to respond appropriately or at all. Communication is severely lacking. This is particularly due to information being misguided and wrong. Covid is not a good excuse for not updating information so that it is accurate , and useful. There lacks a level of accountability with staff that creates a sense of panic and unease, which is a cause for concern when it comes to other procedures/practices that seem to be open to interpretation. I see a shelter uninterested in adopting out or uniting lost pets, and using covid as a useful tool to do so. Operations need to be a hell of alot better!!

I found stray kittens and I was trying to drop them off. I was confronted by the rudest woman ever telling me that I had to wait in line like everybodyyyyyy else. How was I supposed to know there was a line? There were two people waiting out front.. I would have to wait for two hours just to drop these poor kittens off that were obviously having health issues. One of the kittens was very congested and seemed to be having trouble breathing. I told the lady this and she said “are you sure it’s having trouble breathing?” The way that she was talking down on everyone was extremely unprofessional and disrespectful. She then repeated like I was a little kid that I would have to wait in line like everybody else. I’m 17 years old and she told me I needed someone 18 or older in order to drop strays off because i’m not responsible for animals. She said my mom could just come show her ID and then leave, but later on she told my mom that she had to stay for up to two hours until the kittens could be picked up. This made no sense at all and went against what she had just said. Then, she kept my mom’s ID for longer than necessary. She gave no updates on what was going on. There was no communication. The process of dropping off these stray kittens was unreasonably difficult. I’m hoping that in future times, someone kinder and more helpful will assist those trying to help animals.

I’m very thankful for this team taking care of a feral kitten I brought in. I tried for a month to socialize the kitten to see if I could give it a home but it’s too feral at this point. I borrowed a cat trap from them and brought in the kitten hoping they could do a trap neuter return. They were awesome at sending me emails and calling me to give me updates on the kitten. Within 5 days of dropping the kitten off he was neutered, vaccinated and dropped back off in my area. Very happy the little guy wasn’t put down and impressed with the efficiency and follow-up from the team. Now he's a happy guy who likes to sleep on our porch and play with string. Thank you!

What a joke. I asked for some help with a Racoon this morning and I was told, “What do you want me to do about it? Throw it over the fence? He will just come back. Maybe he’s hungry.” That’s when I hung up on the rude “Animal Care Officer”. What else are we supposed to do when we have a animal problem. I guess just go out and get attacked. Whatever.

Useless for dealing with unwanted animals, possums. They told me to get an animal repellant spray to get them to leave.

Adopted my cat Jack here three years ago but recently he was caught in trap and hurt his leg. I really needed help finding him a vet to get him better. So a lady named Tabatha came out to help me... WOW what horrible customer service and just plain disrespectful she said you can give him back if you want I told her not for a million dollars would I give him up that he is my best friend. When walking away I look back and she was making faces at other workers as if im crazy all I asked was treat me like a human. She said if I dont leave she would call park ranger. I would stay away from her at any cost unless you want to be treated like a animal. Other then her I would give the shelter a 5 stars never had a problem here for 15+ years

We just adopted our little baby today. Everyone at this location were extremely helpful and friendly. Thank you all again for everything. Archie (aka Gizmo) is loving his big brother and has continued to be such a happy, loving little guy.

Awesome place to see great dogs - they seem happy and well kept. The facility is super clean and its cool how the dogs can interact with each other and then get privacy and they are not sheltered in a jail.

The people were very nice. You can see how much they like the animals in their care. They explained the process patiently. It's in a park and what we could see of the facilities was clean and appealing.

Only appointments. But one of the girls was very helpful and friendly with me. I wish I had gotten her name. She gave me a list of shelters and told me to go to a sight and look to see if my cats picture was there. Anyway, thank you for your help today.

What's the point of this place if they're only open a couple of days a week??
