Please DO NOT take your beloved pet here. Super disorganized and the front reception is clueless. Dr. Papas didn't even provide post surgery explanation and care. I was told I would be given a post surgery follow up call...never happened. I have questions and the doc is not available when I call. The verbage on their website and reality are 2 opposite things.

Dr Steve Carter is a hot mess. If he spent as much time making sure customers are attended to as he does chasing booze and boys he'd have a much smoother operation. I'd avoid this overpriced dump at all costs

Was told my dog could DIE from this mark on her. And she should have surgery IMMEDIATELY. $1500 later, the mark is still there and some lady tells me. "Idk why that doctor told you that. I've never heard of that". Cool. My dog got cut open in two different spots and you took my money. Nice to know you scare people to make your money. I'll NEVER take my dogs here again. You shouldnt either! BEWARE OF THIS PLACE. Liars . Really bums me out

So pleased to see that sweet Martha is back! What an asset she always was to this place! She's sincerely compassionate and the ONLY veterinary employee to ever call us the next day and check on our dog's progress after a procedure/surgery. Great move in bringing her back. Thank you!

We drive hours to bring our pets here because of the incredible doctors and staff. They are so knowledgeable and genuinely care about the animals and their families.

Don't trust them, they are not in it to help, it seems to be all about money

Not sure what happened to this place but it's clear that no one is steering the ship. We waited two weeks to get our dog in for severe pain. Once seen she was diagnosed with IVDD and a heart murmur. The vet said that the IVDD couldn't be treated surgically, only medically. We got steroids and pain meds and booked a 2-week follow up. We've had our girl 12 years and this was the first we'd ever heard anything about a heart murmur. After 3 days it was clear she was going downhill fast and was literally screaming in pain. I was afraid she was dying. I called and texted the office multiple times over a 2 day period and NEVER received a response. I finally took her to VCA Valley Med Ctr in Indio and waited 4 hours to be seen on an emergency walk-in basis. She had to have x-rays again because Carter wouldn't respond to a request to send them over. Was told she needed surgery ASAP and that she didn't have any sign of heart murmur. We called Veterinary Neurology Center in Tustin at 8am the next morning, got an 11am appt, and she had surgery at 3pm. It's been 5 days and she's a different dog already. She's energetic, seemingly no pain, and in excellent spirits. To say that I'm disappointed in Carter is a huge understatement. We will never trust our dogs' care to them ever again. They are completely disorganized, zero customer service, poor care, and have seemingly devolved into nothing more than a heartworm vendor.

What happened to this place? They used to be top notch. Now, nobody ever answers the phone. Messages are not returned, even when urgent. Time for a new vet.

No judgement, just facts: 1) Brought my 10 year old Golden Retriever with a lump in her abdomen. They operated to remove it. At first they said it was complicated because it had attached to her circulatory system and that meant cancer. Then they said , no it wasn't cancer. She was dead from cancer six months later. 2) Brought my 12 year old Golden Retriever in with a lump on his rib cage. They checked him out and said his lungs seemed perfect healthy, his hacking must just be allergies, and to give him benadryl. The dog had to be put down less than six months later after spending an afternoon in an oxygen tank at VCA (we had called Carter for help because he couldn't breathe early Friday morning, waited half the day for a return call, ended up taking him to VCA in Indio where he died that same day. Today is Monday and still no call back from Carter). Needless to say I do not feel we can trust our 5 month old Doodle's health to them.

This animal hospital is top notch! I hate taking my pets anywhere else and will only do that in an emergency. Carter is fair with their pricing and conservative with treatment plans meaning they won't go over the top with expenses unless they need to. Everyone is so nice and friendly and I am so thankful I have found them!

I needed a rabies shot for my dog and they took care of me right away. Really appreciated this especially during these rough times!

Second time I have been there for medical services for my chihuahua. Doctor and staff very concerned and friendly. The passion can be felt in the atmosphere. Thank you Carter Animal Hospital.

Worst vet, RIPPED ME OFF FOR $85 for doing nothing , asked a few times for an invoice and refused to give me one . What a quack vet , DO NOT USE dr CARTER., Dr Reedy has her own practice, she is GREAT , you should be ashamed of your practice

I took my dog here for an ear infection because Animal Samaritans was busy and only had 1 vet due to corona. this is the second time i’ve came to this hospital, they charged me $232 for an ear infection. the serum they used didn’t help my dog. they had me go 2 weeks later where they charged me $117 and put more serum in. my dogs ear infection never went away, after spending $300+ on those vet trips. the prices for an ear infection were over the top, for just a serum. after the ear infection didn’t go away i just started doing at-home remedies and her ears look so much better now than what they did when i took her to the vet. the ladies were very nice tho, which is why i rated them 2 stars. though i sure as hell won’t be bringing my dog back there.

Hands down, best veterinary care we’ve ever had! Dr. Carter is so compassionate towards our animals’ needs and truly goes above and beyond for them. When we moved here from the east coast, our cat was stressed out and not eating or drinking. Dr. Carter fixed him right up and nursed him back to good health- even kept him an extra night at no cost just to make sure he was well hydrated. Our dog has had several surgeries for a stubborn sarcoma that keeps coming back. Dr. Carter has done a wonderful job in caring for him and you can tell how sincere he is when speaking to us about their condition and care. We will always recommend Carter Animal Hospital to anyone- this is the only place we trust in caring for our furry babies. We live an hour away now, but we don’t even think twice about going anywhere else. Thank you Dr. Carter and team!!!
