The staff is friendly and knowledgeable! We first brought Theo here when she was 8 weeks old and they have taken care of everything for the last year and a half (vaccination, microchip, spay, allergy/skin infection). Highly recommend!

I wanted to like this place. Wanted to bring my pup here since having my puggle here a few years ago with Dr. Ecker, he has since left. Dr. Schaltz seemed nice enough. The reason I will not be continuing to come here is due to the front staff at this vet. Every encounter has been annoying with them and I’ve in particular have dealt with Dominique on several past occasions and I refuse to do it any more. I have repeatedly had to call back for answers and follow ups on past appointments which hasn’t been many! The drop off procedure is absurd, regardless of Covid restrictions you want to put in place. Call to check in, just to have one of the ladies repeatedly calling back for questions and verifications of your actual appointment. Apparently lack of details, preparation and communication of being able to drop off your pet is not common practice at this Vet. It’s unfortunate that as much as this review seems so simple that it could ruin the whole experience.

Great vet office with friendly and knowledgeable staff. I brought my cat here for a sudden, emergent medical event, and Dr. S explained things in a compassionate and clear manner. He avoided recommending likely futile testing under the circumstances.

I would give 10 stars if I could!! It’s unfortunate that a couple of bad reviews were posted on here simply because people didn’t like the covid protocol (THAT EVERYONE HAS HAD TO FOLLOW FOR OVER A YEAR NOW!) or because they just wanted to hurry in for a visit and disregard procedures set in place to make sure that Dr Schatzle has any and all records from previous vets to administer a thorough exam. Also, it is made very clear that there is deposit that is required prior to the appt that is applied to your visit. It is non refundable if cancelled within 48 hours. Now on to my experience : I have struggled for many years to find a good vet. A vet that is thorough and takes the time to get to know my dog and make him comfortable before getting down to business. No one ever wanted to actually spend time trying to figure out the underlying issues with my boy and find a long term cure, instead they just push for short term treatments. I have a pretty rare breed of dog, and it has been an uphill battle to find a knowledgeable vet that actually takes the time to dive deep and figure out what could be the cause of my boy’s ailments, and Dr Schatzle and his staff not only took the time (almost 2 hours) during our visit, they also surprised me with their vast knowledge of specialty areas (such as dermatology). I would normally had to have been referred to a specialist and then underwent several different exams in order to get down to the core of what my boy needed to solve his ailments, but with Dr Schatzle’s vast knowledge of dermatology combined with his incredible “bedside manner” and patience, I was able to bypass the extra steps and find answers and solutions within one place. If you are looking for a cheap and quick alternative to optimal care and excellence, and don’t care about the quality of treatment, then this isn’t the place for you. You should just go to Banfields and call it a day.

My dog actually likes going to La Costa Animal Hospital. She has been going there since we got her as 9 week old puppy. She is now 6. These folks provide excellent service and take great care of my dog. I highly recommend this business.

Best experience with a Vet in 20 years...they take there time, truly care our our Teddy Bear and are super thorough and spend lots of time explaining options and explain the process for each, never felt rushed or pressured.

We have visited this vet for years, only because of proximity. Recently, their vet missed a sizable area of potential skin cancer on my dog’s belly. We had to take her in to have a second dose of a vaccine administered, and they informed us that they would charge us again to look at the skin (although it should have been examined at her physical exam just weeks prior, and I had asked about having it looked at days after the exam when scheduling the second dose of vaccine). When I asked to have her records sent to me to transfer to another vet, they then refused to give my dog the second dose of the vaccine (who was there at the clinic with my husband waiting). Incredibly unprofessional, and negligent of the examining doctor to miss the problem. At the time of the issue , the staff refused to allow us to speak with the working doctor/vet regarding our concerns. So it is incredibly disingenuous for the vet to respond to our review. Additionally, the doctor that saw our dog for their original physical was not working the day we were refused help, so, again, the staff response is inappropriate/a blatant lie. After we were not given the help we needed, even though we made staff aware of the issue within a week of our original appointment, we asked to have our records for transfer to another vet. It was after the staff was notified of our intent to change providers that they refused to complete the scheduled vaccination out of spite,, while still refusing to allow us to speak with the vet to discuss our concerns..

It was a near perfect experience. I love that the doctor got down on the ground with Bodhi and made him feel so comfortable. Best vet visit I have ever experienced.

We have been going to this place for quite a while and all the doctors that we have seen there have been wonderful there is normally two doctors there at a time. Currently they have dr. Pollard which we are absolutely in love with we wish we could clone him. But with that being said Lacosta Animal Hospital is the place to check out.

I just moved to the area and my 13-yr old Shih-Tzu was in need of his annual exam and dental cleaning. He ended up having to have 7 teeth pulled...the Doctor and his staff were fantastic!! The doctor called me a few times and was incredibly thorough with explaining the process and the rationale of why it was important to have the teeth pulled. They were very professional and responsive throughout his procedure and the day after. I highly recommend La Costa Animal Hospital.

I've been coming here for both of my dogs and wouldn't want to go anywhere else. Fantastic staff from the front desk to the Vets themselves.

This was the best experience I’ve ever had with a vet. So excited to continue bringing my pets here!! The vet spoke with me over the phone for about 30 minutes on my dogs care plan. It was very thorough. They were up front about prices. They seem to really care about my dogs and they’re well-being. Really excited to have a new vet for my pups!

So far so good. We have had our lab pup here since Feb 2020. They have handled the Covid 19 situation very well. Communicating their hours and protocols. Our dog has been well taken care of thru a pandemic and what more is there to say. More expensive than Surfside our previous pet hospital but you GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR and we learned that the hard way Good job guys at La Costa

The experience was great. Everyone was very kind and knowledgeable. Bruno almost fully enjoyed himself even, until he found out he needs to wear a cone for 2 weeks. We loved everyone and am so happy we found a great place to help Bruno be his healthiest. I highly recommend La Costa Animal to anyone.

I don’t think they deserve your business- it’s one thing to think they are great when everything is going ok but I believe that all they care about is money- and not being a partner in your pet’s health. This is evidenced by not just being ridiculously overcharged for basic medications, and also by trying to get us to pay for unnecessary monthly tests; AND in that they had no interest in cooperating with sending over records to other vets while we were traveling out of state for two months. My wife spoke on the phone with LCAH three times over three consecutive days of our trip during which they promised to send records from her previous appointment with them by end of day each time. They never did and we so had to pay for redundant tests in order to get care for our old dog. We have been advised by the two other vets we have visited since then that the tests they wanted us to get every month are only required every 3-6 months and they only cost 1/2 what La Costa charges. To add to it all they are continually calling us trying to sell more of their services, and now that they have read the review want us to go out of our way to contact them and address their deficiencies.

I have a baby boy 6 month old Bengal cat. Originally he was going to be an indoors only cat but I decided to walk him on a leash in front of my house and he comes to work. I choose Aviara Animal Hospital at first, and made a big mistake. They traumatized my cat so bad there and made me feel like they were all about the money. The vet even called from inside and said they had a rough time holding my cat down. I took him to La Costa Animal Hospital and was getting ready for another possibly bad experience. Not only did they make it wonderful for Oslo, he was stress free. They did not try to push services and the vet and staff were very caring and professional.

My first experience could honestly not have been any better! My sick pup was fit in the same day, the doctor and staff were tremendously kind and helpful, and my pup is already doing much better! Highly recommend!!

Despite the COVID-19 restrictions, the staff at La Costa Animal Hospital made our puppies first vet visit as easy as possible for us. Unfortunately, we weren't able to be in the room with our pup but we were still able to ask any questions over the phone as the Doctor examined our pup Walker in real time. Would definitely recommend La Costa Animal Hospital to any dog owners in the La Costa area!

Front desk girls are amazing! I would highly recommend this vet. The doctor is very nice and i love how he listens to your concerns and actually explains stuff in a way you can understand and feel comfortable. Great doctor for your beloved furry friend.

Things could not have gone more smoothly, especially during Covid-19. A vet tech came out for my pup right away. After the visit the vet called me to throughly discuss all and any issues. I provided my claim form to be faxed to my insurance company and we were done in no time. Unfortunately one vaccine was forgotten, but they brought me right back in at no charge for the visit. It was a pleasure bringing Peanut there. Thanks everyone at La Costa Animal Hospital.

Super friendly vets and staff! They take the time to fully explain things and walk you through any concerns you have, they dont make you feel like you're on the clock!

Best vet ever. Reasonable, kind, humane, these people are top tier vets without a massive investment. We've had all kinds of situations with our fur babies and have made different financial decisions at different stages. La Costa Animal Hospital has treated us with total respect and kindness at every stage. We've had 4 dogs treated by them and plan to have plenty more!
