Carlsbad Animal Hospital Carlsbad, California

For years, I've been going to an Oceanside vet, on the long ago recommendation of a friend, and becoming less and less satisfied with the service. When I needed a USDA certified vet to provide a health certificate for my dog, who we're taking with us to Australia, I discovered Carlsbad Animal Hospital, less than 5 minutes from my home. I can't say enough about their professionalism, cheerfulness and kindness. Dr Livezey took some time to speak with me about my dog's visit and the next steps for him. I just wish I'd discovered them earlier so that I could have switched services for my animals years ago. The contrast between this vet office and the one I'd been going to was stark, and made me realize that the pandemic shouldn't be an excuse for rudeness and lack of care.

Dr. Andrea is friendly, compassionate, explanative, and very knowledgeable. We feel safe with our very beloved fur-babies being taken care of by him. We hope he stays around for years to come!

I was frantic approximately a year ago with my little Maltese with bloody mucous diarrhea. After 3 different Vets, changed to Carlsbad Animal Hosp came to Dr Livezey at Carlsbad Animal and Dr Livezey. With his guidance, recommendations, support and infinite patience my little gal is fine. He isn't a proponent of all kinds of medications, took a conservative approach, with diet changes. When Mia was not doing well, I was always able to bring her in to be seen. From the person that answers the phone to the Vets - this place is tops in my opinion.

They took very good care of Bella. Gave good directions on her care after surgery and followed with phone calls.

I just have to say that all of the staff @ CAH are the Best! Your tender caring for our Fur Babies as if they were their own is well received! That, to me is key in true Pet Healthcare! To Dr. Runyon, My sincerest regards & Prayers go out to you & for your loss of Gus. My Heart aches for your loss! We have been taking our dogs to Carlsbad Animal Hospital for many years now and have always been very pleased with their services. The staff at all levels is friendly, helpful knowledgeable and caring. We have only praise for what they offer and how well they do and we will continue to bring in our dogs for years to come.

Jesse (I think his name was Jesse) was freaking awesome, along with the rest of the staff. Love that place but wish it was closer to me!

I've been coming to Carlsbad Animal Hospital with both of my dogs for the past 6+ years. This past week was our last visit before we move and it's going to be a challenge to find a spot as wonderful! We've been here for both routine and emergency care over the years and everyone I've interacted with is professional, kind, and willing to go above and beyond, even with my not so friendly pup. Highly recommend!

They are so great!!!!!! Loved the staff's energy and kindness and loved how comfortable Bella was there! She never takes treats after vet visits. This was our first time here and she ate food right out of Maddi's hand!! We will be attending here from now on! 100 percent take your babies here!

So glad I brought my kittens here for their first vaccinations and care. The staff are so nice and accommodating. Definitely recommend bringing your little family members here if you are looking for a vet.

I trust the staff and Doctors at this hospital. Upfront about what is necessary and what treatments can be put off. They have the expertise and equipment to handle almost anything in house. Very kind and patient staff. They treat your pet as if part of their own family.

Arrived in the parking lot and wasn't sure if we were bringing dogs in now or not so I called. Gal that answered the phone said to bring the dog in so I did. Turns out that was the wrong answer and I was told to go back outside. No Big. The tech that came out to check my dog in was very brusque, borderline rude. I felt like I was being interrogated and found wanting. She took the dog inside and maybe 15 minutes later the vet came out. Lovely woman, talked to me like she was interested in my answers, answered my questions and reviewed the situation. They found a problem, took steps to fix and sold me medicine, and then I had to wait 20 minutes after getting my dog back for them to return with my credit card. 5*s for the vet; reasonable if pricey exam fee, reasonable prices on the actual actions they perform. They loose a star for the initial interaction but even more so for the gouge fees. Antibiotic twice the online price, blood work twice the price of the actual lab work. Everyone needs to make a living and I am ok with paying a surcharge for convenience, but 5.25 a pill for something that sells for 2.70 online? That is just insulting. Come for the vets, put up with the tech (maybe she was having a bad morning), but take your prescriptions elsewhere.

Let me start off by saying that Dr. Runyan was great with my dog! She was thorough and answered any questions I had while also having my pugs best interest! The reason I'm am giving 2 stars is because of their staff up front. Particularly one young girl, with purple hair, was not friendly and apathetic to how apprehensive my 2 year old pug was about a doctors visit. She seemed very rushed to get her inside and when she brought her back out I noticed there was feces on my dogs behind and on her tail. I calmly said, "oh, how did this happen?" And her reply was "it just happens sometimes" and I said "ok, could I please have something to clean her up with before I put her in my car?" And she said "no, we do that" and basically dragged her back in. I was very surprised by this interaction because I have never had a negative experience here, but now I don't think I will be coming back. I also didn't receive a receipt from my visit and had to call the front office which someone else came who was very kind and prompt. It's upsetting to know that since we can't be with our dogs because of COVID rules that staff wouldn't be more sympathetic and caring. Maybe this young lady should consider a different profession.

Literally the best vet I've had.

I am new to the area and Carlsbad Animal Hospital gave me an appointment when I first called them. I had called several other vets and they were too busy. The Dr that treated my Ruby girl came out to the parking lot to talk to me about the results of his examination. Then when I needed to bring her back because she still wasn't feeling well, they got me in right away and only recommended what seemed like the necessary tests to diagnose her issue. I received a call from the vet that saw her the next day as scheduled and again, he was caring about the issue. We have a new vet to go to now and I couldn't be happier with them.

We decided to bring our new furry family member here after reading an abundance of good reviews. Throughout her first vaccination series she had great encounters with techs and doctors alike. However my view on this facility quickly changed. My pup was attacked by another dog. Out of an abundance of caution, we decided to take her to the vet to be examined. Prior to coming in we explained she was attacked and was hesitant around us and we wanted her to be examined to . My partner took her to be examined by T. Goode, JD, DVM. After less than 10 minutes they walked her back out and refused to examine her due to he raising her lip at them. My partner insisted on being there with her and assist the examination outside. He reported the DVM being visibly afraid of our 6 month pup and keeping her distance well away. T. Goode, JD, DVM then explained to him we should tell them next time if she is an anxious dog.......... She received all her vaccinations there, never was there a note made about her aggression. We had disclosed that she was JUST attacked and I would hope as medical professionals they understand the behavioral ramifications of a dog being attacked and proceed with an abundance of care and understanding. We were appalled at the lack of professionalism displayed by this provider. The Carlsbad Animal Hospital said we would not be charged for the visit as it was conducted outside, but low and behold the next day a charge hit the card. We ended up having to dispute this charge with our bank after back and forth. We decided to move our pup to a different animal hospital and the experience by their DVM is night and day different. We explained our experience at the Carlsbad Animal Hospital to our new providers and they empathized with the poor way T. Goode, JD, DVM handled the situation. The worse part is since interacting with T. Goode, JD, DVM our pup is now a nervous vet go-er when she NEVER was prior to interacting with T. Goode, JD, DVM. Proceed with caution.

Great vets and the whole staff cares dearly about each and every animal that comes in.

Enjoyed our first visit to Carlsbad Animal Hospital. I was comfortable asking all my questions, and felt confident with the treatment options provided. Will be back:)

My grandparents have been taking their dogs and cats here forever so this is where I took my new rescue puppy and it was a wonderful experience. The prices were very reasonable, the staff was awesome and I loved how kind the vet was. I will definitely keep taking my Griffin here for future appointments <3

My new dog was recently adopted from Tijuana and is very shy and lacking in confidence. The staff at CAH are kind, knowledgeable, and professional. When she was ready to leave, she was happy and not nervous at all! They are wonderful!

Teddy Bear, our 11 year old Golden doodle has been a patient of the Carlsbad Animal Hospital for the past 3 years. I highly recommend them! When he was in distress today and I drove him there a team came out immediately to help him. I cannot thank them enough for their responsiveness and keeping me informed all day of his progress. I highly recommend them. They truly care about animals and know that they are so MUCH MORE than an animal. They are our loves, our joys, our everything. Yes, I am crazy about my dear Teddy Bear and would not trust his care to just anyone.

Dr Candace Runyan is thorough, professional, knowledgeable and seems to care about her patients.
