It was time to renew our pandemic pup's license AND he needed his rabies vaccine. Although we have used our vet for this, I found out they have a Sunday rabies clinic at this shelter. We got Appa his vaccine, paid for his license and got him chipped - all for much less than I would have expected. From start to finish, the staff was patient, friendly, and professional. P.S. This pandemic has changed some of the procedures at this shelter, so call beforehand.

This is a wonderful place to adopt a pet. Alison was very helpful. Be patient these people are doing the best they can. I am happy I decided to adopt here. Thank you.

Animal Control Officer was awesome. She quickly and delicately removed a possum that was living under the hood of my truck. The lady was fearless. She said the animal would be checked and then released to an area nearby. Happy ending for both me and the possum.

Lots and lots of problems with this shelter. Driving up to it today I see a sign saying that you can't meet any animal you're interested, you have to adopt on sight only. Walking up to the door there's a sign saying that you can adopt by appointment only. Turned around and drove away. I also wrote them about a specific animal I was interested in. Got an automated reply saying they would respond within 48 hours. Well, that 48 hours came and went with no reply. Not sure what their agenda is, but it ain't helping animals. Adopting an animal on sight only is a recipe for disaster. GO ANYWHERE ELSE BUT HERE.

I lost my dog during a thunderstorm but luckily she was wearing an Apple Airtag & I knew she was at the County Animal Shelter. I picked her up this AM with an updated chip, license & rabies shots. They did a great job of taking care of my dog. I had to pay some fees but so glad she is safe! Thank you to the compassionate & professional workers there! I am no fan of Apple but get your dog a GPS or Airtag!

I guess everyone is giving this department of animal service 5 stars, but what you guys don’t know is how irresponsible they are. I lost my dog 8 days ago, and when I picked him up from this department of animal service, they mentioned that they gave my dog all his vaccines so he wouldn’t get sick, but he already had all of his vaccines. It wasn’t his time to get his vaccines again. Today he had diarrhea with blood in it. I asked my aunt, who is a veterinarian, why this happened and she said that the reason for this was because he got too many vaccines at the same time. He could have died from this irresponsible action. So please be aware that if your pet gets lost and goes to this department of animal service then they have a high chance of getting sick.

I didn't get to see the dogs as I wanted. I was able to see them at the Chula Vista and San Diego facilities. Their site, however, was helpful

You know the phrase 'Easier than getting teeth pulled'? Animal Services is saying 'Hold our keg". Have a puppy that we registered and they sent the standard postcard without the metal tag. Notified them and they said OK. Another card with a tag under a different Lic#. After that it turned into a 3 stooges act with me being the audience member. Long story short, renewal time saw me with lots of renewals and I had to play circus music to get it sorted out. Now they can't even get into the 21st Century with the rabies BS. Pay online then wait for another notice to go back to the Vet to...... well, circle wagon time. I never thought I would say this but I sure do miss living in Escondido and having to do business with them. I think it is time for my dogs to be undocumented.....

Took a dog that was at the Tecate Border Crossing. They were very friendly and quick. They even placed me on a list in case I changed my mind and wanted to adopt the German Shepard. Unfortunately I already have four dogs.

I was sad upon arrival that the inside was not open for public for browsing. Was going to take my 2 yr old to see some live canine friends instead of on the ????. Disappoint 4real. Only way is to view the animals on their website

Adopted my amazing, sweet, adult dog here! Giving 4 stars because shelters are amazing and help dogs find homes! When I called and asked about a particular dog I saw on their web site it turned out my home wouldn't have matched with that dog so they described to me another dog, the one I adopted, who fit my home better and had been in the shelter for a month without any inquiries. I'm very thankful the employees led me to this sweet, older boy. The reason this review is 4 stars instead of 5 is because I am sad about the "contactless adoptions." I did not get to meet my dog or any of the dogs before adopting, but it worked out for me. I literally had to sign all the paperwork and finalize the adoption before I met the dog I got. They do give you 30 days to "return" a dog if it doesn't work out but thankfully I didn't have to. This is how it is right now in a pandemic.

Excellent pet adoption procedure. All done with efficiency. Got a wonderful loving cat that was rescued just in time from another animal care facility that was ready to euthanize it. Glad I found this wonderful pet at S.D. County Animal Services.

They helped me adopt a 3 month old puppy that I found on the freeway. I took him in to have them locate his owner and when noone came forward I decided to adopt him. Animal services was very helpful and thorough when it came to checking the dog's health. They vaccinated him, worm and flea treated him and neutered him. They also chipped and licensed him. When I picked him up they had all of his records and he was clean and well cared for. They really care about their work and the animals.

My dog was snatched by a coyote and taken a mile away. Naturally, the people that found him on the side of the road called Animal control. The officer, Prettyman, was rude and unyielding; she treated me as if I had injured the dog or in the least was somehow at fault for the actions of the coyote, a wild animal! She impounded my boy and was told that I did not have a picture ID. But discovered that was what I needed when I went to pick him up.... he's still there. I try again tomorrow at 1.

The staff explained everything to us so patiently and clearly. They answered all of our questions, even when we called them after we adopted our boy because we forgot to ask some more.

Rude, greedy, lack of compassion for what families during corvid may be financially be going through.

Brought one of my pups here for rabies vaccine the vet wouldn't give him for another three months. The delay was making it impossible to license. They took care of everything and I was able to pick up the license for my other dog as well. They only charged me a fraction of what the vet would have and there was no line to wait in. Highly recommend the Animal Services Department for vaccinations in the future. Thank you Chris.
