This used to be my go to place but they’re so slow when it comes to needing my dogs records transferred to another vet ASAP even for emergencies. They’re also so quick to raise their prices but MOSTLY hire rude, unprofessional workers that can’t even return phone calls in order to make an appointment. It’s been 2 weeks and I haven’t received a call back even though I left a voicemail. I would’ve thought them closing earlier and no longer being open 24/7 would benefit the business. Although, in my experience and opinion, the change didn’t help their business at all. If anything, it’s made it worse since I’ve never really had bad experiences prior to it. I’d be okay with raised prices as long as the good service doesn’t have to disappear along with it. Sucks to say that I will have to find another vet.

I’ve been taking all of my pets here for over 12 years. We always have an excellent experience. Everyone is kind and helpful and is always so excited to see my pets. Even when I’ve been here for emergency visits everyone is calming and very helpful! Dr. Minturn is who we usually see and he’s the best!

The receptionist here had such a negative attitude and wasn’t helpful at explaining the hospital’s services at all. It’s $85 just to be seen. I’d rather keep my super nice vet in Los Angeles (Modern Animal) than deal with these people.

Great place to go in an emergency when all else fails! Went with friend in the middle of Xmas and they were open ready to help.

Berkeley Dog and Cat is the best! My pups have now seen three different doctors (vacations, days off, et cetera). Each time, I'm so sad they can't see their regular doctor; but the one who is filling in is just as good! I would trust …

We called for an urgent care appt, as our regular vet had no appts available. The staff and the doctor (Dr Kouch) were very kind, friendly, and thorough. They gave us detailed info and answered all questions. We are extremely happy with their service and the results.

This vet is the best brick and mortar vet hospital I have taken my boy to. They have attentive staff and their doctors are very very knowledgeable. I feel comfortable with the process and all the information provided from my visits.

Consistently the place I feel comfortable bringing my red eared slider turtle. The inquiries into my pets needs are on point and treatments are reasonable and have worked. My tuetle is a family member, and Dr. Lieu understands that.

I love Berkeley Dog & Cat Urgent Care. They were very kind, professional and available to help ASAP when my two dogs ate a bunch of dark chocolate. Turns out it was mostly the big dog, and as he started showing concerning racing heart while being treated and as the first bits of chocolate were getting into his bloodstream, I really think they saved his life. The vet and the vet tech were so smart and clear and available and really wanted to help. I thank Heaven for them! I have waited 4 hours in the late night outside an emergency vet in the same town in another situation and then just had to go home to sleep, empty-handed. So I really appreciate Berkeley Dog & Cat being available and doing a great job with my sweet dogs.

I'm incredibly thankful they made room (urgent care) to see my cat when she broke her paw. The staff was kind and understanding while I was panicked. Dr Bosire gave me regular phone calls to update me throughout the day on what was happening with my cat. It really put me at ease. They were also upfront and transparent with the costs beforehand. I liked how Dr. Bosire took the time to explain everything to me when I went to pick up my cat. He was great! The only complaint I have is a situation that happened with the pain medication. I picked my cat up and drove 45 minutes home in horrible traffic only to find that i was given an empty bottle.... Which was inside of another container. I called back and they insisted that they hadn't forgotten to dispense the medicine the bottle must have had a leak. I didn't like that they 1 did not believe me and 2 questioned my intelligence. Even if the bottle had leaked, the medicine would have been in the secondary container. If that container also had a leak, the bag would have been wet. No choice but to head back as my cat was in pain. They asked me to bring the container back. Fine. Of course when I get there they inspected the container before actually preparing the medicine so I had to wait for that. It would have been nice if they had taken my word and had the medicine ready at least. I must have spent around two hours driving there and back home TWICE and waiting for the medicine I should have gotten the first time. They did offer to refund me the cost of the medicine so I can't be too mad as they tried to fix this. Would recommend but check your meds before leaving!

BEST Dog and Cat care facility in the Bay Area. We are super pleased and always highly recommend Berkeley Dog & Cat Hospital plus our outstanding veterinarian there, Dr. Thomas Minturn, to friends and anyone else needing excellent vet care for your pet(s). I HIGHLY recommend Berkeley Dog & Cat Hospital and the fine, patient manner of Dr. Minturn to anyone. I am sure all the vets there are highly qualified and excellent also. Dr. Minturn has seen my kitty since she was adopted at 3 months old from a shelter and she is now 11 yrs. old in perfect health. He still sees her and now sees my adopted dog who was a stray and also in perfect health. If you need the finest of medical care for your pets, I again highly recommend this hospital with 5+ stars!

We just adopted a cat and needed to find a local vet. They fit us in quickly where other places were booking out months in advance. With covid, a vet tech came to meet me in the waiting area to discuss my concerns and then took him back to meet the vet. The vet called me on the phone and we talked a bit about his behavior, health, diet, treatments, etc. I didn't feel rushed and feel like they were keeping out best interest in mind. I was able to review pricing on the spot and then decide what our plan would be. A couple other people waiting had lovely things to say about them. We will definitely keep them as our primary care vets!

This is the only vet I have felt comfortable taking my dogs to. Each time they have taken care of them and I can see the joy they have working with animals. I had a recent experience when another vet at a different animal hospital checked one of my dog's for foxtails and missed A LOT of them. My regular vet was not able to see my dog but the emergency vet took great care of him. She was able to remove some deeply embedded foxtails that the other vet hospital missed, for the same location they had removed some. I was confident after his visit here that all the foxtails had been removed and that he was going to be okay. In addition, they were less expensive then some of the other local animal hospitals and they would only give you a quote once they had actually evaluated my dog. I have always had a positive experience here and plan to continue coming for many years.

Great and sensitive care for my pets over the past 20 years, including dental care, oncology, geriatric care, and endocrine treatment.

we love having our pet care within walking distance and getting very attentive care when we need to bring our animals in. we also are very happy with 24 hour care , expensive but worth it. they focus on many preventative aspects of care and we are very appreciative of that as well. our long time veterinarian had to leave because of family reasons but our new veterinarian is kind and practical and knows her stuff! i have to say that although the veterinarians are great, the front desk sometimes leaves a lot to be desired with long holds, being cut off, , curt responses, not calling back or emailing back...last time was better at the veterinarian but still a long wait after the dog was supposedly done.

It took over two weeks and multiple phone calls to get our dog's prescription refilled. We also made an appointment to get our dog's nails trimmed. They did one foot and told us to come back another day because they were too busy.

Truly a God-awful-run bureaucracy. Wait in your car for 10 minutes on hold on the phone just to tell them you’re there. The receptionists don’t seem trained or empowered to really help. Wait another 30 minutes for someone to come take your pet. (This is for a *scheduled* appointment drop off.) Next time, I could not pay my bill day-of, and needed them to invoice me (pet insurance complications, plus they had already invoiced me for my previous appointments, I assumed it would be the same for this one). No dice, they demanded full payment, and refused to give my dog back! I waited in the car on hold, back and forth with people who said the couldn’t help me. I couldn’t believe they were holding my dog hostage for money I didn’t have on hand (but would be paid by insurance that week). I literally had to wait them out, sitting in my car, for over an hour. What are they gonna do, keep my dog overnight for ransom?? Eventually they caved and tried to make me fill out a debt form with my social security number (no way in hell I’m letting that machine get its clumsy jaws on my credit). I left that field blank, filled out the rest, and got the dog back before they noticed. They called 15 min later saying they need my SSN - yeah right!! I got out of there and am never ever going back. Pet insurance paid the bill in full the next day. The following week I got a call from my vet, he had quit his job there, too!!! Sounds like he was just as tired of them as me. I switched to Ocean Ave Vet Hospital in SF and have had (1) super smooth experience so far.

My experience was not pleasant, because of my little hamster she was sick and I just wanted her to get better, they offered me some tests to review her. But it was not pleasant, she was very scared and the staff did not know how to treat her ????. I think that being such a small and elusive animal was not easy for them. But I saw him treat some puppies and kittens, it seems that they did a good job.
