If you are seeking personal attention for your pet's wellness needs or for an illness or accident, Del Lago Veterinary Hospital is where you want to be. Dr. Barnes is, quite simply, the most knowledgeable, caring and compassionate doctor of veterinary medicine that I have ever known. I wish he could be my doctor! He will never send you away without questions answered. If one therapy does not suit your pet, he will suggest another. He never gives up as long as you and your pet seek his advice. His staff is warm and welcoming, yet professional in discerning your pet's problems and quickly getting it the attention it needs. Our kitty was 19 when he finally passed away and we know we owe that long, happy and vital life to Dr. Barnes and his staff. Now, our new kitty, 7 yrs olds, is getting the same superb care and we are getting advice on how to handle a kitten. Do not walk; run to Del Lago with your pet. Don't even wait until the pet needs a service. Stop by and enjoy for yourself what veterinary medicine should be. We have been going to Del Lago for 7 years my son had been going for over 10. Quite simply service is good since VCA bought them price is ridiculous. I noticed many reviews were only couple years so people have no idea how price has skyrocketed. Never give you a break, even for old customers. I know many people who are pet owners and all say something VCA is very overpriced. It was easy finding a quality vet, who are friendly, not committed to being the most expensive. As long as my family had been going, a little concession on price for our loyalty would have been reciprocated. Our last visit for Cookie a check up was $500. Really OK my final comment, nothing was accomplished by talking to Del lago,as I read there reviews I am not only not satisfied with the overly expensive cost. Alot of there reviews are before VCA took over. After many years of loyalty we move on to new vet. Katie said to me, I understand if you can't afford us. Obviously an ignorant comment, I suppose she never looks for fair price or comparison shop. Not that we can't afford,it, why pay so much more for same service other vets offer. Fred

Review Update: This review was two stars due to a policy requiring a vet visit to get an updated food prescription. The Hospital manager personally called me to clarify that this was not the case and was a technician error and would happily supply an updated prescription. We've always trusted VCA with the health of our animals before and will continue to do so in the future.

The staff is amazing! My pupster gets fabulous care and attention.

I have been taking my dog to VCA Del Lago ever since I got him. I got a free appointment with him when I rescued him from the humane society and they have always treated him well. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. The prices are higher then other clinics but they offer different wellness plans that don't kill your bank account, and you definitely get the best service for what you pay.

I haven’t taken my dog here just yet but so far it’s been a great experience. They were so friendly on the phone. I love that you can schedule appointments online, and they send the needed paperwork via email which is easy to fill out.

They always take excellent care of my dog.

It is with a heavy heart that we write this review. Our 10 yr old yellow lab Ringo has been coming here since he was a pup. He is the worlds healthiest dog and never had any health issues. He developed some lymphomas that were nothing but fatty tissue. We took him in to get them removed and they noticed a rotten tooth that was extracted. He was doing great for several weeks then suddenly went downhill fast. He developed what they think are neurological issues and became very droopy and lethargic. We have spent several hundred dollars more with no diagnosis as of yet. They now want him to do a CT scan as he continues to decline rapidly. He has violent sneezing attacks that are causing bleeding and his head looks like it is caving in. He also cannot close his jaw and can't chew or get water into his mouth as result. Del Lago was purchased by VCA which is a nationwide conglomerate who we are very suspicious of. I have read reports of the medical industry injecting Pathogens into patients to get them on the treadmill of sickness. If you think the industry tries to make patients well think again. There is no money in healthy patients. We are taking our dog elsewhere for a second opinion. We do not believe Dr Marcus has any knowledge of the harm she may have unknowingly caused but we caution anyone from using these conglomerates for the care of their animals. There is No logical explanation as to why our dog has suddenly become so ill. We are doing a 2 star review to give Del Lago the benefit of the doubt.... I have attached a photo taken just a few weeks of Ringo whose head muscles have absorbed into his skull. He is completely deformed and this happened as result of the procedure done by Del Lago as again he was the healthiest dog you have ever seen. We are at a complete loss and are speaking to an attorney that specializes in veterinary law as this is completely unacceptable and very sad.

Dr. Barnes and his staff have been taking care of my precious furrbabies for 20 yrs. I couldn't imagine going anywhere else.

The staff here is very knowledgeable and kind. They even caught a diagnosis that another hospital botched and missed that could have made all the difference. Even if you aren't in the area, worth the drive.

My dog is 11 years old and she has been going to Del Lago all that time. Lately she has been seeing Dr. Marcus when Dr. Barnes has been busy. Both of them are wonderful, caring and responsive. I highly recommend this practice.

I moved to AZ from California last summer and I was so happy to find a Veterinary Hospital so quickly. I have a lot of cats, and Dr. Marcus and the whole Del Lago staff are fantastic. Everyone is professional, caring and compassionate. I'm starting to think my cats are looking for ways to go to the Vet so they can get coo'd over by all the loving ladies in the office :-) Del Lago gets 10 paws up from my kids (Skitzo, Skeeto, Skittles, Jadey & Jazpurr)!

Del Lago Veterinary Hospital has been caring for our dogs for several years. They are by far the best veterinary hospital we have ever experienced. The entire staff is excellent. The doctors and staff are very knowledgeable and kind. They take incredible care of all our dogs. Whenever we need to schedule an appointment they are there for us, even at the last minute. After any procedure they check in with us to see how our canine patient is recovering. When our 17 year old Yorkshire Terrier passed away a few years ago they were there for us with understanding and compassion. The doctors and staff were very thoughtful with their follow-up telephone calls and sympathy cards. Today they take great care of our thriving dogs... from puppy and onward they have been wonderful. We highly recommend Del Lago Veterinary Hospital.

Del Lago is by far the very best! Everyone - - and I do mean EVERYONE really makes you and your sweet furry friend feel welcome and well cared for. I have been going to Del Lago Veterinary Hospital and Dr. Barnes for almost two years. I have three dogs, so I am there often. They helped me nurse one of my Labradors back to good health from her having Valley Fever. They are extremely professional, compassionate, friendly and just great!!! I have been extremely pleased with their services. I highly recommend Dr. Barnes and his staff.

My family has taken our dog to Del Lago Veterinary Hospital for ten years. The front office staff are efficient and caring ladies who adore animals. The three veterinarians are wonderful with our dog, they take time with the animals and to answer questions. Several months ago we had to put our beloved Hooch down due to skin cancer. The experience was made easier due to the staff at Del Lago. We now have a rescue lab/retriever who also loves Del Lago's staff. I would highly recommend Del Lago Veterinary Hospital.

I have seen Dr. Barnes & Del Lago for over 25 years! He has seen me through 5 dogs and a cat in that period of time. I can't say enough positive things about Dr. Barnes and his practice. Everyone there is extremely professional and genuinely caring for their patients, our babies. From emergencies to routine care, I simply would not go to another vet. My dog Kamali and I really love Dr. Barnes. The doctor is gentle, intelligent, communicative and never condescending. As a human who is really connected to my canine companion (in other words, I'm totally crazy about my dog), I appreciate learning more about dogs and their world every time I see Dr. Barnes. His staff is great,too. I do not recommend the other doctor at this hospital, though. I'm sorry. And I hope this helps.

I have been visiting Dr Barnes for many years with several pets. He was very compassionate when our dog had a terminal illness and made the horrible process as good as he could. Our regular check up visits are always fun.Everyone welcomes us with big smiles and open arms. I would recommend Dr Barnes and his clinic to everyone.

All my dogs were lovingly cared for by Dr. Barnes. I have been with him for 25+ years and wouldn't think of changing. The office staff is caring and attentive to my needs. Zoey would rate Del Lago Veterinary with 5 paws.

i have been taking my dogs to dr. barnes at del lago for at least the last 20 years......through 11 dogs.....when we moved away from the neighborhood further north i hated to but switched to a closer vet......didn't stay away very long and i drive half an hour just to go to del lago. the staff is always friendly......all their dr.s are great......they do not recommend any proceedures unless necessary....as long as i have dogs we will continue to go to del lago!!!

Fine, competent folks with a great attitude and I’d recommend them, anytime. We are Canadian snowbirds. Our beloved dog goes to Del Lago when we’re in Scottsdale. Mostly it’s just for shots or topical treatments but twice we have had mini-crises. Here’s how those went. First, she got a bad reaction to one commercial topical treatment for parasites, sold to us by Del Lago, itself. Dr Barnes gave us respectful sympathy and having agreed it seemed like a bad reaction to the product sold, he offered corrective meds for free and a full refund for the topical treatment. That is letter-perfect customer service. No commercial operation can offer great results every time, and the way our complaint was handled got me right over my own upset. Many weeks later we had another mini-crisis - a nasty, crusty outbreak on our dog’s skin. That time, a younger vet at Del Lago dealt with us in a professional, very helpful way, fully informing us of possible causes, suggesting options for treatment and offering to send information up to our vets in Canada, for follow up. We’re staying with Del Lago when we’re down south!

I trust Dr Barnes and his staff with my best friends. They are always thorough and kind. Have been going to Del Lago for more than 10 years with all my pets and even though there are quality vets closer to our home, I feel it is best for the health and well being of my critters to stick with Dr Barnes.

After reading the other reviews, I'll sound like a parrot, but IT'S TRUE! IT'S TRUE! Dr. Barnes and the entire staff are the ultimate in veterinary care in the Valley. I've been with them for several years, through 4 precious pets now over the Rainbow Bridge, and currently 3 more. All of the adjectives fit. Knowledgable. loving, compassionate, capable, attentive, and there's no end to their goodness. My babies and I have always been given the best and most thorough care, yet have never been "sold" anything we didn't need. Del Lago can be trusted. And I have trusted them with the lives of my precious "kids". Always . . . Del Lago is family.

Del Lago is absolutely the best! I've taken my cats to Dr. Barnes and his stellar partners for about 20 years. They are skilled, compassionate and caring. They give you the straight story of what's going on with your pet, along with options, odds, costs and everything you know to make an informed decision. From CT Scans to claw trimming they can do the job. I first heard of Del Lago from a friend who lives in Central Phoenix. She said she wouldn't go anywhere else and that it was well worth the (almost one hour) drive. Having had a bad vet experience elsewhere, I gave her recommendation a try and WOW! I now feel comfortable that my kitties are getting great care from great people. I'd recommend Del Lago enthusiastically to anyone!
