2015:I dont recommend this hospital. I had just adopted a puppy and he got really sick and they were the first hospital that had appointments open (thats a big hint). I got there, the Vet went in for less than 5 minutes then said he would be back and never came back. He had his assistant do everything and I never saw him again. The assistant was really nice but I was not pleased with the vet. He didnt explain anything, he just left the room. I could understand if it was busy but I was the only one there. When the results came back, for the very expensive test he recommended, they never called me and he said it was because they had my wrong number. They had 2 phone numbers for me and my email address. I recommend Banfield at Petsmart, just went today. It was great!! Vet was great, spent 20+ minutes with us and explained everything in full detail. He even took some time at the beginning of the consult to just play with the dog. The vet at banfield did everything himself (shots, temp, exam). Update 2021: I am now a medical doctor and to this day, still get upset thinking about this visit. I could never imagine treating my patients or their loved ones like this.

I honestly regret choosing this clinic and would NOT recommend that anyone be seen here. My dog passed away after a long process with the doctor and several medications. When I went to pick up meds for her failing kidneys, the front desk staff didn't give me any directions on amounts, feeding times, or warnings about side effects of the medication. Don't bother using their email option to contact them because they won't respond. It's not worth it, go somewhere else

One of the Greatest Vets I have ever been to, took care of my puppy like it was their own, friendly staff that listens to their customers, I would recommend this vet to anyone that needs a great place to take care of their pet.

I wanna start out by saying the Vet techs and other vets at Aztec are AMAZING. Tiffany especially, but all of them were so sweet and caring. However, Dr. Diego Florez is one of the worst vets I've ever made the mistake of taking my pet to. I understand mistakes, but his attitude and character ruined the experience more than anything. My cat had complications in surgery and her heart stopped. When I got there, sobbing, he complained about giving her CPR (isn't that... your job?) and then left the room entirely while the vet techs kept working. The vet techs saved her life, and were so kind and caring throughout the whole thing. Afterwards, we waited for hours for Dr. Florez to bother to come in and talk to us about next steps. When he finally felt like doing his job, he came in and said he thought my cat would never walk again, had a stroke, had severe neurological issues, and might not make it. He made us bring her in every day for 8+ hours of "observation" where she was stressed out + he didn't even bother observing her. Not to mention how expensive this was. She needed blood tests, but every time i made an appointment to get them done, he cancelled within 30 minutes of when the appointment was- this happened 4 separate times. As someone who works full time, this was inconvenient and rude. I would understand once for an emergency, but four times? I decided to give up on them and switch to the Scottsdale Cat Clinic, and I've been extremely impressed with their care and compassion for my baby. Two weeks later, and she is running, playful, eating a ton, and clearly feels the best she has in a long time. I will NEVER go back to Aztec. The other staff is so kind but the whole experience is ruined by the a**hole Dr. Florez.

I don’t even know where to begin, this was a terrible experience. My 11 week old puppy was scheduled to get her ears cropped this morning and the doctor had an emergency so he had to cancel. This being after I had driven nearly an hour and a half to get there. This was no big deal, as life happens and emergencies happen, however, it’s what followed that made this whole experience terrible and a subpar place of business. We had initially placed a $300 deposit that was non-refundable (completely understand the meaning of this). However, the surgery was not canceled due to us, the DOCTOR canceled due to a personal emergency. We absolutely agreed to this deposit but they told us they wouldn’t refund us and that we would have to reschedule. I had taken time off of work and arranged care for my puppy the following days so rescheduling her wasn’t an option, as she is getting too old to get the surgery done. We weren’t comfortable putting it off and had decided it just wasn’t going to happen. They absolutely initially refused to refund our deposit although this was on the clinic and not on us. I want to make it clear that whoever was working the counter was very sweet, the rest of the staff could use training. I had to speak to 3 people (all with poor customer service skills) before they would reluctantly agree to refund us. The first girl had a poor attitude, had no empathy and could have cared less, she even rolled her eyes. To make this whole situation even worse I could hear them clearly talking about us while they were in the back and one girl said, “I’ll go talk to ‘this lady.’” I am a customer, and was appalled. Terrible treatment, terrible way to do business. I had told my husband we were not going to use this place initially because of the poor reviews. I should have listened. They finally told me to have my husband call in and they would refund him directly (after arguing for 30 minutes). They gave him grief and said they don’t know who would have told me they had finally agreed to refund us. They finally did, but told us we could not reschedule ever. Why would we want to? You treat your customers poorly. I absolutely would not trust this office with my dog. I’m sure Dr. Flores is great, his staff however is awful. I would not trust the care of your dog to this location. I get it, life happens, we are absolutely understanding but when something is canceled due to your staff/cline and not due to me, it’s absurd to tell a customer you won’t refund them. Not only that but the attitudes and lack of customer service was just terrible. Do not entrust your fur babies to these guys.

Do not I repeat do not get your dogs ears done here... I am a 45 year Doberman breeder of champions, I took 7 of my puppies to Dr Flores, and everyone has ear infections, dewclaws assessed, stitches fell out because they where not correctly stitched, 4 of my puppies went to other vets, Dr Soltero and all of them have beautiful ears, no issues at all and no infections. Every one had to bring thier puppy back to be restitched, cleaned and or fixed in some way, everyone complained and Dr Flores blamed me, the breeder, he blamed them and charged them for everything that had to be done, as a result of his negligence and failure to properly keep the ears clean prior to cropping, it's quite possible he isn't autoclaving his instruments and it could cause septicemia, everyone has written to the Arizona Board of Veterinary medicine, about it as its so grossly negligence. I've had Doberman ears done for 46 years never have I seen such gross incompetence and gross negligence in Veterinary care. I have photos of all of the ears, dewclaws and all the bills and the outrageous prices he charged to do shotty work, and damaged $3000 puppies... This is a champion sired and bred litter of top quality bred dogs and we expected some kind of acknowledgement, of these facts and Dr Flores, I should not refer to him as a Doctor with this outrageous attitude, incompetence and negligence. DO NOT TAKE YOUR PUPPIES HERE OR QUARTZ MOUNTAIN HOSPITAL, HE OWNS BOTH... they are butchers.... Dr Flores had only to call me and speak to me the breeder but he blew me off and told my buyers "She thinks she knows more than me"... as it happens, Its quite obvious that I do, Mr Flores. . Your practice isn't a practice is a butcher shop with techs doing your work... AVRB reviews are coming, sir... all I asked for was your professionalism and I sent you $8000 Worth of business and you blew me off, I don't appreciate that...

Stay Away!!! Doctor Diego Florez and his staff are unorganized and unprofessional. My first visit I had an appointment scheduled at 3:00pm I get there at 2:45 and checkin with receptionist while waiting I noticed as the time move closer to 4:00 pm customers that arrived after me were helped before anyone even came and got my information for the appointment. It was not until I flagged one of the staff down and asked them for help at 3:45pm not to mention this is the third time I spoke with them from the time I got to the location. Once someone came to help she didn’t ask for any info and told me that everything would cost a hundred dollars regarding my dogs visit for scheduled appointment. 30 mins later the doctor and staff come out with a estimate bill that was $500-700 after doing the evaluation on my pup, second red flag. On the same visit I had Diego Florez give me another estimate on another procedure for my dog which we agreed upon I signed off on date and estimate price. Diego Florez scheduled the procedure a month out from the date of the evaluation so one month later comes the appointment is at 7:30 am I drop my pup off and then I get a call at 10:30 from Diego Florez telling me he can’t do the surgery and gives me no explanation on why he can’t do it and when I asked he exact words were “because I said so and come get your dog and hung up in my face” So just before you think about Aztec Animal Hospital remember this… Diego Florez the guy who will be working on your dog does this for money not passion or love for your dog. I would beware and save your time & money.

Took our puppy in to get his ears clipped and we were asked if we wanted his nails cut and we said no since we already did it ourselves and they cut them super short! I know it hurts him because of how short they are obviously they didn't know what they were doing

I took my cat here for a second opinion on a diagnosis we got from another vet. The first visit was great and Dr. Flores did a great job with my pet. He recommended we return for a second follow up a few months later and this is where the frustrations happened. First, we had to schedule a drop off since I wasn’t allowed in the appointment with my cat. I agreed to this and was told I can drop him off for an 8am appt. we got there at 7:45am and I called right away to tell them I was there to drop him off. They said they’d be right out. We literally waited for 45 mins for someone to come out and take my cat out of my car. I watched multiple people come after us and leave before us and when I called a second time, they seemed like they had forgotten about us. Waiting 45 minutes for a drop off is ridiculous and it’s not respectful of the customer’s time or making a pet wait in a cage in a car for that long unnecessarily. We were charged $285 for a blood draw and I was told we would get results of the test in 2-3 business days. After 4 business days I still haven’t heard back and when I called to follow up I was told that the results had come in a day or two ago but they “missed calling” us. When I asked for them to just tell me the results, I was told they couldn’t since they’re not a doctor but would try to have them call me the next day. All of this is stressful on top of facing potential serious health issues for my cat. It seems every interaction this time around is that they have forgotten about us or dropped the ball on something. I’m not necessarily unhappy with the vet services but being so disrespectful of my time and being told multiple times that I’ll have to wait (whether wait in my car for drop off or wait for test results) is frustrating for me and unprofessional on their part.

Worst vet experience ever. I got a new kitten who had gunk in her ear so I made an appointment here at Aztec. Their initial exam is $70 alone which is just checking joints, and basic vitals. Then, they wanted to see what was in her ear so they swabbed it and put it under a microscope, this part was $60. They called and told me they needed to sedate her because she was too feisty to clean her inner ear and they said she would be ready within an hour. 3 hours later I called to check in and they said they were busy with other surgeries and couldn't handle her yet. They told me it would be another hour. I said I would come to pick her up and when I arrived the bill they gave me was projected to be $364-$384 for fees like waste disposal, sedation, the meds needed to clean her ears (which I found out was $22 for the ENTIRE BOTTLE and she only needed .01 ml in each ear!) The ear swab/cleaning that they did do was so aggressive that they made her bleed from her ear! I took her to the rescue where we got her and they treated her for $0, in under 10 minutes and they didn't even need to muzzle her or put mittens on her. Aztec was just too busy to care about a tiny 4 month old kitten. I am disgusted with my service at Aztec Animal Hospital and they kept my new kitten in a cage for 5 hours alone for NO reason. Disgusting.

The vets are the most caring and understanding. Our pointer had bone cancer in her leg, they scheduled her for an amputation. A few days before we took her in because it was worse and found out it had spread. We had to let her go. Each person there was amazing through the entire process.

I took my dog to get updated shots. I waited in parking lot 40 minutes and called to find out what was going on? the doctor said she called me ,which she didn't call me. later I found out she called my partners parents number which they were told twice to take off and put his cell number in. so this was the mix up.from their end. Dr.plunkett said she was allergic to something, but no record of what she had an allergic reaction to in the past.which I had to take her back with allergic reaction and they administered a shot for the reaction. they said they would put in file and give her a lesser dose. but was not recorded in the file. Dr plunkett didn't give the shots.I wanted to know why the allergic reaction wasn't in her file, and this dr. plunked became irate and told me to come get my dog! very unprofessional, I have had other problems with this office.twice my dog was chipped ,at same office. should have caught that in her record as they gave her both chips. then I took her in for two appointments for shots, and then after waiting in parking lot was told she didn't need shots. they called me to remind me of these shots both times. I took her back just recently to encounter this nasty dr. plunkett, she told me she took phone number out and today when I called the girl who answered said the old number was in there. incompetence is so sad when we entrust our pets to their care. I did discuss this with dr. Flores and I am hoping ,and giving him another chance as my dog and I love him. so sad in an emergency I will have to take her to another office when dr Flores isn't there.

I'm grateful for this vet clinic. Not only do they have a great deal for yearly shots- Aztec also treats you and your pet like you matter and not like a check book. Recently, my dog started to have some issues with mobility in his hind legs. Seeing him in pain I rushed him to an emergency vet who had zero idea what the issue could be. Next day I bring him into Aztec (who was able to squeeze him in between appointments even though they were completely booked) and they were able to come down to two problems that it could be. I instantly had a wave of relief knowing that I was not going to need to spend thousands of dollars on tests that he didn't need and we could get down to fixing the issue to relieve him of his pain. Dr. Florez and his team were very professional and showed so much care towards my little guy. Even with my constant phone calls they were very patient and understanding. I can't stress enough how thankful I am for him and his team.

Dr. Florez and Staff were my Rescued Boxer’s awesome doctor for the past 9+ years... Without their care, I don’t think she would have made it was long as she did with all her allergy and other illnesses! I am truly blessed to have had her as my faithful companion for as long as I did, and attribute her longevity to Aztec Animal Hospital. When the end finally came, they made our last visit extremely respectful and peaceful for us. We are all saddened, but our hearts are beginning to heal, seeing how our sweet girl left us at peace and in a room full of love. Thank you Dr. Florez and the entire staff at Aztec Animal Hospital!!

This place is horrible.Brought my dog for a dental and wasn’t sure, because i was worried about the anesthesia and i took him back home saying that Doctor Flordez was gonna call me and they never called to double check I waited for a hour and was only one doctor there. I highly don’t recommend this place.

Scheduled a telemed visit. Talked to a woman on the phone. My pet had not been in prior and the woman on the phone knew that. Come time for my appointment, which I took off work for, they tell me that they are running late it’ll be another 15 min. Ok sounds good. 15 min rolls around and now they call back to tell me the telemed tech is down, and that anyway I can’t schedule an appointment like this since they haven’t seen the animal first. Waste of my time. Can’t you tell me that OVER THE PHONE before I have to take off work for this appointment??? Was looking for a good local pet since moving to the area and I’m glad I dodged this bullet. If you can’t adequately inform me about telemed before my appointment I shouldn’t be trusting you with seeing my beloved animal at all. Annoying and totally preventable.
