I truly love van aken hospital. Dr. Suzanne Johnson is so caring and extremely intelligent. She truly is the best vet I trust my animals with. Love to all the staff.????❤

I was not happy with the service. I was told my dog needed to be spaded because she was not show quality. On top of that they added in the price of the spading with the quote that was given to me for the procedure that they said needed to be done. I took my dog elsewhere for the procedure and will never go to van aken again.

It's not greatest place, but it's the cheapest from all the other places I've gone to. All the other Vets are trying to get rich off of us poor people that can't work and bearly making off of our disability checks every month. Van Aken Pet Hospital is very reasonable and I can vouch for that. I don't like the doctor at all. But it's cheaper to put up with her for just a few minutes of her whining.

Fantastic vet. Though the place is hard to get to. It's dirty. Parking lot is a mess, worse when it's wet. Plan to stand in line both in and out. They are very slow when it comes to customer service. But they do provide excellent service. Worth the mess you have to navigate through.

They are polite, caring, and efficient. They treat us and our animals very well. Prices are very reasonable too. Edit: Went back and they remembered us.

I don't care where I move to in the valley, Dr Johnson will always be my vet. I've been with her for years. When my cat tia was pumped full of steroids for years from another vet claiming "allergies", it was Dr Johnson who found the tumors in her nose. And when tia lost her battle with cancer she was there till the last breath. For my other kitties, I wouldn't trust anyone as much as I trust her.

Lower cost, lower concern. That's Van Aken. Won't EVER take a fur baby there again. ANY reviews more than one star are either lying, or friends and family.

Really ghetto, disgusting and out of date office. It smelled like the back of an antique store. It's located on a busy dangerous road, and there is no parking. I had an appointment but ended up waiting an hour. Staff was friendly but a little unprofessional. Prices were reasonable. I would really need my pet to be seen by a vet to want to come back.

on 03/15/2021 I brought my dog in Scooby in on a minor fungal infection that was non life threating. (fungal infection diagnosed by prior vet over video call through app called Vetfirst who in turn referred me to take my dog to a vet so they can see him in person and prescribe medication.) when arriving at Van Aken I showed up at 10:55am my scheduled 11:00am appointment and waited an hour to be moved to the next room for another 30 minutes so an assistant can come speak to me and upsell me whatever they could. about 15 minutes later the vet come in and speaks with me about my dog, takes him into another room and comes back with him 10 minutes later. we agreed to give him his vaccinations which he never had in 10 years, prescribed a medication called FLUCONAZOLE and some fungal shampoo. meds where to be give once every 12 hours of 300mg and shampoo to be used twice a week. I did as instructed and come the 03/22/2021 7 days later I notice a bad reaction my dog took to the medication which made me investigate what the symptoms where which was exactly what my dog had. loss of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, and redness of the eyes along with heavy breathing. I called the vet the next day on the 29th dr Johanson who told me to cut the medication in half (cut each pill in half and give twice daily) and to call her back in 5 days well come the 22 I stopped giving him the pills for about a week and my dog seemed to be getting back to life until I restarted giving him the fluconazole on the 30th even at half a pill my dog took a bad reaction to it and got worse than before I called the vet back in 5 days as she requested and made it sound like the fault was mine by not calling during business hours and advised me to take him to an emergency vet clinic or bring him in next following business day that they are open on. I called on Saturday at 4pm was advised the above mentioned and my dog died that following Sunday. so to make a long story short they charged me $410.00 to kill my dog slowly by my hands of feeding him this fluconazole. im sure if my dog would have it come that Monday they would have talked me into putting him down and cremating him all for around $1000.00 for which my initial visit was for a minor non life threating fungus and now my dog is dead. THANKS VAN AKEN. this was my best friend like a son to me and now hes gone.

Staff is not friendly, with the exception of one lady that works up front. Vet was ok, she was very short with her responses, didn't give me much information unless I asked, and it didn't help that the receptionist came to the back and told the vet and her assistant to speed it up because there were people waiting. Office looks a bit run down and dirty. Parking is horrible! Prices are great but this shows you get what you pay for. I took my bunny to get fixed only paid $150 and everywhere else I called was over $340.Medically everything went well which to me is the most important thing. However, I took another bunny in for ear mite treatment and since I have other buns at home ( 3 adults and the one I took in just had a litter of 4 baby buns)the vet told me they would all need to be treated most likely since it is so contagious. However, she expected me to take in every single one individually to be treated instead of giving me a RX or treatment info for all the others! I thought that was a bit extreme...how can you expect someone to have that kind of money. Not pleased to say the least.

THIS VET OFFICE IS A HIT OR MISS You will either get good service or you won't First time I came,no issues at all Came back a second time because they are affordable but the employees were extremely rude Here's my experience for the second visit: My husband waited for almost an hour and noticed he was getting skipped and dogged out,we almost left but I decided to see what was going on and asked the receptionist in the front and she gave me a dirty look and was short with me,to my amazement, after complaining..they finally call us The doctor came in and did not even look me in the eye once as she was talking to me and I was standing right in front of her I did not feel welcome and just in general bad vibes from the staff I'll never bring my baby here again✌???? I should've read the previous reviews on this place, don't take that chance of giving them the opportunity to sh#t on your day

Great prices, I got my male bunny neutered there and I ended up coming in a week earlier than my scheduled appointment on accident and they were still able to accommodate me. Friendly staff

READ THIS IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING COMING HERE! Okay, so about half of these reviews are horrible, and so, I was terrified to bring my little baby bunny Gus here for his neuter this week because some of these reviews sound really scary! But, I couldn't find any other affordable place, and couldn't drop $400 on his neuter, so we drove up to Van Aken from Tucson, and took a chance on them, and we are SO GLAD we did! We were greeted warmly and professionally right when we walked in. The front desk staff, who is also one of the owners, was polite and professional, and broke down all of the costs and also the "extras" such as post-op meds, the cone of shame, extra shots/vaccines, etc" I had many questions about what was absolutely necessary and what he recommended, and he was very transparent and gave us really great information about rabbits and the vaccine they recommended, and WHY they recommended it. He was not pushy about anything. Gave me the information and allowed us to decide. I could tell he knows SO much about rabbits and the other types of animals they treat there. We were taken to the back room for the tech to weigh our bunny, take his temp, etc. She was very kind and professional, and handled our Gus with care, and also humor when he was being a little butt head and started kicking her with his feet. Dr. Johnson came in and was also very kind and professional, told us exactly what to expect for his neuter surgery, and explained post-op care, etc. She even owns both cats and rabbits of her own at home, and we were asking her some questions about it since we also have cats and have been monitoring their interaction with our rabbit, and trying to help them all get along. We left to go get some lunch and do some shopping while waiting for him to wake up after the surgery and be ready to be picked up. They told us to call them around 1:30 pm, we had dropped him off at 8:30 am. They called us at 11:30 am and told us he was awake already and ready to be picked up! We went back to pick up Gus, and the front desk person was again, very polite and professional, answered some more questions we had, and explained post-op care for us again. They had charged us $20 for clipping his toe nails, unknowingly by us, because it was not indicated that this was going to be an additional charge. If it was $5, I wouldn't have asked for a refund, but because it was $20, and we clip his nails at home, it was an unnecessary expense to have them do it. I explained that I was frustrated that they clipped his nails and charged us without explaining or telling us it was an "extra" charge that would be $20. He was very kind and professional about it and gave us the $20 back. We really appreciated the service, everything from the beginning to the end, and even the extra effort to make things right because we had driven all the way from Tucson after all to go someplace affordable. I explained to them that I was scared to come because of all the bad reviews, and we were pleasantly surprised and appreciated their service and treatment. He explained to us that many of the disgruntled people who have written bad reviews brought in pets who were already very ill, injured, or sick, and expected them to be miracle workers, and that many people deny treatments they recommend, and then when their pet died, they wanted someone to blame for it. I can tell that Dr. Johnson, the owners, and the staff LOVE animals and care about them and want to make treatment AFFORDABLE which is why they are in a no frills facility, but the inside was extremely clean, and I could tell they really cared about our bunny and that they want to help animals and make sure people can afford to take their pet to the vet. We will definitely be coming back, even if we have to drive all the way from Tucson for any future surgeries or care our furbabies need. We cannot recommend Van Aken enough, they were just fantastic! And, just SO affordable it was unbelievable! Thats real SERVICE to their community right there.

I have had my dog for 11 years, and when I started going to van aken I loved Dr J her passion for animals is undeniable, however over the years her bedside manner has gotten worse and worse, down to she is flat out rude. A few years ago I found another office to take my pets to and start using Van Aken as my back up if my new primary wasn't available, well that was the case recently. My appointment was at 4 and wasn't taken back until 430 to 440, now I understand they are busy and schedules sometimes run out of wack however they close at 5 and it became very obvious that their closing time was more important being she asked me to just come back the next day because she couldn't get a "good urine sample" when the tech early in the visit expressed there were multiple ways of getting that done and they would get one. Keep in mind I have been in the back now for a total of 20 to 25 min.... when she picked the time I needed to come back and I asked if we can do it a little later in the day because of mine and my partners work schedule availability, she scoffed had an attitude and continued to tell me that was the only time because she had surgeries to do until the afternoon. At that point I make the appointment for the next day, left and called my primary clinic and was able to get my pet into their office and canceled my appointment at Van Aken. Unfortunately I will not be returning to Van Aken even as a back up plan moving forward, Dr J has become so rude it is extremely off putting. I paid $48 for an office visit to rushed, disrespected and leave with the same level of knowledge about my pets issues as I did when I arrived. He passion for animals is definitely there but she is quite rude so heads up.

It's not much to look at but don't let that foot you. This has helped keep the vet costs down. That's how we found Van Aken over 20 years ago. We called around to get a price check for a surgical procedure the previous vet proposed and Dr Johnsen was almost half the price. We have been so impressed by the care and feeling that each and every one of the folks at Van Aken exhibit toward all the critters, from noisy birds to all kinds of furry guys (our ferrets/cats), they are amazing. They are a 20 mile drive but worth it!
