We had to bring our cat to the vet emergency unexpectedly. The facility was clean and nicely decorated for the holiday. The prices were not any higher than I have paid at other emergencies. The quality of care was phenomenal. The staff was caring and friendly. I am really glad they were here to help.

My dog had an eye infection. They tried to do a test of glaucoma on each eye for 2.000 dollars . They play upon your heart and try to get so money out of you . Avoid this place .

Dr. Wassef and his fantastic team saved my dog’s life! When I was stressed out, his team met me with patience and understanding. When called in at 11:30PM, crying hysterically, to check on my dog, his team met me with empathy and kindness. Dr. Wassef is a fantastic Veterinarian, and the staff at this establishment is absolutely lovely. You cannot put a price on the life of your best friend. I am forever grateful.

Update: the vet confronted my husband at checkout because of this review. Told him we were “rude”. Another client waiting watched the encounter, said how unprofessional it was and walked out with her dog. Our dog was there for a total of 5 hours!!! That’s how long we waited. And they wanted $400 for X-rays?? It’s way cheaper at a human doctor. But he highly recommended the CT scan.. for $1500??? What the heck? We spent over $300 just for an office visit and some medication until she can get in to a regular vet!! Did I mention the wait time? 4 hours just to see the vet. ALSO, if it’s an orthopedic problem they can’t do anything but stabilize your pet until you can get in to see someone else. Never again. UPDATE: we were kind to EVERYONE. What a sad response from the owner

VESCONA was there when my dog and I needed them! Cody was vomiting and in a great deal of pain (pacing, unable to get into a comfortable position, whining and groaning every time he exhaled) so we went to VESCONA at about 6am on a weekday. Krissy welcomed us into the clinic and was efficient and kind even when I was groggy and very stressed out from little sleep and seeing Cody feeling so uncomfortable. Dr. Barnes did an exam and recommended abdominal x-rays and bloodwork, which I thought was very reasonable given Cody’s level of discomfort and the fact that I had no idea what it could have been caused by. Cody was sent home with medication and thorough discharge instructions and I received a phone call a couple days later asking about how Cody was doing (he seems to be slowly but surely on the mend!) As others have mentioned, the bill for emergency vet care is never small anywhere you might go, but Krissy and Dr. Barnes were upfront about all costs. (Here is a good opportunity to encourage you to get pet insurance if you do not already have it!) I am very grateful that VESCONA was open and available to make Cody more comfortable. It is such a terrible experience to see your pet in pain and we are fortunate to have VESCONA here in Flagstaff for veterinary emergencies. Thank you so much to Krissy and Dr. Barnes for helping Cody earlier this week. I hope we never need emergency vet services again, but if we do we will definitely return to VESCONA.

We had a horrible experience going into this place close to 10 pm on a Saturday night. Looks like they were short on staff probably because of the labor shortage. We were traveling and our poor fur baby was throwing up because he hasn't been eating properly. They believed he had parvo virus without thinking through the symptoms or looking at his vaccination passport(yeah he has one ???????? what can I say). They asked us to wait in our car because they want us isolated. They then moved us into an isolation room so they can run the parvo test which any tech could do in a matter of minutes. After an hour of waiting they turned us down and asked us to come back the next day. We never got to see their doctor.

I called in to make sure they were open; they said come on down. I pulled up and called per their instructions. They said I was next in line and that it would be 45 minutes until they could see me. I waited outside, in my truck, for an hour. I called in and they informed me that there were now TWO more people in front of me and it would be about 1.5-2 more hours wait. These were people that walked into the clinic while I was waiting outside. HORRIBLE service!!!

Worst vet I’ve ever been to in my life. Waited over 5 hours for a simple check up and got extremely up-charged. Was told multiple times this would be my final payment and was lied to over and over again. I’d never recommend this place to anyone

I had to come in for an emergency on a Sunday after my 11 year old mountain dog formed an infection from a previous surgery at my local vet. Dr. Wassaf is wonderful and made my fear ease with his attention to detail and my dogs age. Surgery has since healed and I can not express my appreciation and giving my dog comfort back :) thank you. Everyone is the office has been beyond kid and helpful and I especially appreciate Lindsay and Krissy! Both have helped me through my concerns, explained everything to me and making me feel better! On top of the great service I appreciate the refreshments! It’s great having a clinic in town that is available to take on new clients in an emergency! You guys work so hard and I truly appreciate you!

I took my cat (Trout) in late monday night. The staff was wonderful. Dr. Toni Barnes explained his lab & x-ray in detail. His cost of treatment was high, but they gave us a break to fit into my loan on spot which helped a great deal. Thank you so much to Dr. Barnes and her staff! I highly recommend and 100% confident in the treatment Trout got. Thank you again. Trout is feeling better!

This review is mainly for Chrissy and J who were working the front desk the night of 7/22/21 Fist off when you charge what you do, you need to give the best customer service. If your best is to be snappy and rude, you are in the wrong profession and you should not be allowed to answer the phone, much less work with other peoples pets. I received a voicemail from doctor Barnes with test results for my pet that I brought in yesterday morning. Thankfully all was good and I have already scheduled a follow up with our regular vet. Dr. Barnes also said in her message please call us if you have any questions. Based on my interaction with Chrissy( please call us if you have any questions) is just being polite. Chrissy took it upon herself to speak for doctor Barnes. I asked if she knows if my pet was tested for Leptospirosis, in less then a second she says NO. Ok well why not? Again in less then a second Chrissy replies with The doctor didn't feel it was necessary. Chrissy knows this even without looking at my pets records, who I am or consulting with the doctor. The following day after leaving this review I did receive a call from the office manager Lyndsey. She assured me that is not how they generally treat their customers, and asked if I would like to have the Leptospirosis test done for my pet. I also received a call from Dr. Ayman Wasseff, he went over the X ray results with me in detail. Having three dogs I'm sure we will be needing emergency services at some point again. based on my experience, I will think twice before bringing them back to this clinic. When dealing with the public it's always best to be proactive rather the reactive.

Had a good experience here the another night when my dog was experiencing a very swollen eye. Both the technician and the doctor who helped us were very helpful and attentive, gave my dog lots of love and attention and explained everything to me. The doctor was thorough and the eyedrops she prescribed worked great. Can't really comment on the price as I haven't been to other vets in this area but it seemed reasonable for "urgent care." In and out in about 1.5hrs on a weeknight.

You don't want to go to an emergency vet - but if you need to, and live anywhere near Flagstaff you are lucky enough to have The Emergency and Specialty Center of Northern Arizona. Top notch all the way, from triage to treatment these folks are professional and know their stuff. The staff are kind, helpful and experienced and Dr. Wassef is fantastic, he goes above and beyond to care for his patients. We can't thank you all enough for all you did for Jack.

My dog wouldn’t be alive if it wasn’t for the team at this center. Best care I’ve ever seen, compassionate, informative and very personal.

Took my cat here after westside refused to see her even tho I've been a client there for almost 15 yrs. Dr wasef was great. Super smart and understanding. They are a little pricey esp compared to how cheap westside is.. but you get what you pay for. ????????

Incredibly kind, courteous, caring staff. Dr. Wassef is funny and put my mind at ease with his story of a similar incident he went through with his dog. This said, I hope there’s no need for us to go back… :) Thank you VESCONA staff for everything you do every day!

I needed to take my dog to the vet on a Friday, my vet was closed and recommended I go here. The staff and Vet were amazing, they answered all of my questions and made me feel confident that my baby was in good hands. Obviously the price for emergency services is more but they explained every charge and how necessary it was. They also got me in right away so I didn’t have to spend hours worrying about my dog needing care.

Have a dog with Evans disease and of course he shows platelets failing on a Holiday. Turned out to be a staff infection, still serious for him. The staff and vets were kind patient, and professional. Expensive heck yes, worth it, …

Edit to original review: I called the vets office and spoke with Lindsey, who was very patient and kind. After a bit of back and forth, and her checking with the vet if he felt what I reviewed here was accurate, they agreed to issue us a refund for the 82$ bandage and a partial courtesy refund. After this was said and done we ended up spending a total of 261$ for the procedure (that unfortunately still didn’t provide any results). I do appreciate that they issued any refund at all, but If I had a time machine, I would not have the procedure done again knowing the bandage wouldn’t stay on and support a good prognosis of the procedure. It’s never fun to have your dog suffer and spend 261$ if you’re going to end right back where you started. I am bumping it from one star to two stars because Lindsey was helpful and I appreciate the partial refund. (This will allow us to put the 187$ they refunded toward the next vet visit to get her ear fixed again.) Original review: We brought our dog in for an ear flap hematoma. We waited approximately 6 hours to be seen. When it was finally her turn, We asked the vet multiple times to do a shunt in order to avoid the ear filling back up. The vet said he would do the aspiration and a “special bandage” that would hold pressure for “a minimum of 7 days” and this should help it not fill back up. We were told to have a vet take it off in 7 days. We were grateful to have her “fixed”. We paid 82$ for this special bandage, and close to 500$ for the visit. We drove 1.5 hours after the procedure, during which our dog was very knocked out/asleep because of the medicine they gave her. However when we got to our remote camp location, and opened the back of the car, her bandage was completely off, around her neck. She did not shake or itch this whole drive, only slept (and she had a cone on). I called the vet immediately and they told us to go get “gauze from Walgreens and wrap it tightly”. If this was sufficient, and it’s not, why would they stress how important their “special bandage” was in the success of the procedure? Two days later, we have had to re-wrap it 4 times, and her ear is filled back up with blood. The procedure was for nothing; her suffering, and our money was, for nothing. Well be taking her to yet another vet in a day when we reach our destination. What a waste of time, suffering on her part, and money. Absolutely the worst veterinarian experience we’ve ever had. Pictured: is trying to re-wrap her ear, in the middle of no where camping.

We did not have a great experience at this vet. Now, I understand that there was nothing great about what happened, however I would expect a little more form a vets office that deals with these things everyday. Our cat passed away very suddenly. We drove over an hour to transfer him to this facility to have him cremated. When we got there we were still in shock as to what could have happened and had some questions. The lady who helped us was kind, but only gave very generic answers. Maybe it’s too much to ask that the Vet enter the room and talk to us for a few minutes.. this did not happen. We were told it would take a week to get him back from the crematory, maybe 2 weeks tops. We explained we are not from this area so if there was any way to get him back in a week we would appreciate it.. a week came around and he was not available to be picked up so we had to wait another week. When we called this time he was still not available for pick up. After extending our trip to stay the extra week and finding out he was still not available we were pretty upset. They gave us the information for the crematory and come to find out they offer a rush service and we could’ve had him back with us after a couple of days. It would have been nice to been given this option. The crematory was unaware of our situation of us leaving town and they waited over an hour passed closing on a Friday for us to make the drive to pick up our boy..which we greatly appreciated. I feel the vets office could have made a better effort on communicating with us and the crematory. There’s no way to make this a great experience when losing a pet, a member of our family .. but it could have been made less stressful and a smoother process to say the least. I just think they may want to reevaluate their process to prevent other families from going through this. One nice thing is they did send a card in the mail with condolences from the staff, this was very touching and much appreciated.

Read the 1 star reviews they blame the owner and take no responsibility. 24 hour emergency but doesn't open till 8 am.(they are not 24hours) Also does not take dogs if they have no leash carried or not. Extreme wait times for any kind of emergency.

Unfortunately, we had to bring our pup in due to an emergency, and had to have him put down. The group there Hannah, Katie, and Dr. Wassef, gave us the time we needed to discuss the situation among our family, and were very supportive, giving us unlimited amount of time to say our goodbyes. They loved on our little guy as well. Thank you so much for for your caring and supporting attitude.

I took my cat here on a Sunday because I was concerned about pssible pathos plant poisoning. He had been playing with the plant and then suddenly was not showing much interest in eating so I was extremely worried and concerned. I arrived at 10:00 on a Sunday morning because I was told there was one person ahead of me. I still waited a solid 2 hours before they took him back to see the doctor and then another hour after that before somebody came and spoke with me. I was told that it was going to be almost $1000 of tests, blood work and x-rays before they could even diagnose him. I am old enough to remember when doctors were once able to actually diagnose an animal without all that. Whatever happened to, "lets try this (insert not insanely expensive remedy) first and see if it helps?" Thats a LOT of money for anybody, I still cant believe that amount of money that needs to be dropped just to walk in the door of a vet these days, nobody has that. And its expected to be paid up front before anything is done. I have a care credit card, but like a lot of people these days dont even have money for food already... One would think that some tests could be ruled out based on the owners description of events and behavior (like is a four panel x ray series to check for urinary blockage really necessary when the cat has been going just fine?) They did the tests and I was told they would call in a couple hours. Of course I was beyond anxious ALL day. I called and them and found out the blood work had come back with nothing, they were still waiting for the x rays. I waited almost another hour and decided to just go back there. I was told that the x rays had just come back and they were just about to call me. Another 30 minutes for the doctor to come to the room and explain the x ray. There was nothing in the x ray. They determined my cat was a little dehydrated and nauseous. They gave him a hydration shot and some seriously expensive nausea medication. It was 5:30. It literally took ALL DAY. I felt that was very unprofessional on their part. The lack of timely updates....they were not that busy, there was no crowd of cars in the parking lot. My cat had sat there ALL day apparently just a little dehydrated. If it was a dire poisoning situation, my cat probably would have died. I really think they possibly could have tried these remedies from the get go before charging me $1000 for tests that showed nothing. $1300. We got him home and he ate, cause apparently he was hungry from being there ALL DAY long. I'm very disappointed in this place...

I highly recommend this facility. One late evening my dog was in need of an emergency treatment. I live about an hour and a half away, we don't have a 24 hour veterinary where I reside. I was thankful to know this facility was there, the stuff took her right in and kept me up to date on everything. And their follow up services for were just as pleasing.

Our dog bit another persons dog putting two puncture wounds in this dogs leg. Being responsible people we paid the bill for treatment. Mind you we have 7 dogs and have had a few taken in to our vet Chino Valley Hospital for being attacked by Javelina. WE HAVE NEVER SEEN A BILL FOR $2200 for treatment of 2 puncture wounds and a dog kept overnight. One of our dogs almost died from Anemia had to have blood transfusion and was in the hospital for days and we paid 2800 for her entire care! This vet is an absolute rip off!!! If you want quality care for honest prices Chino Valley Emergency is your place. I run a dog rescue, and never in my day have I seen a vet that charges these outrageous prices.

Let me start off by saying that the vet and vet tech were very nice people. The vet was very knowledgeable and patient with my uncertainty. He had a very good bedside manner and answered my question the next day. Unfortunately, I have to give 3 stars to this establishment due to their overpriced vet services. I understand “emergency” services cost more but not to the point of breaking ones bank. We don’t have a lot of options in Flagstaff. Affordable healthcare for a pet in a true emergency should not be taken advantage of.
