i adopted this kitty from high country a few weeks ago and had an amazing experience! her foster parent (Nina) was amazing and made sure soup (my cat) was going to a loving home. she was very clear on what soup would need and helped me as a first time cat owner on how i should care for her. overall i had a great experience here!

Wanted to adopt a senior dog. Found this facility to be disorganized, uninformed and not forthcoming about the senior pets I was interested in would not allow my husband and to even view one of the old dogs. They never called back, as protomised. Honestly, some truly 'vacant' staff, one even downright discourteous. Disillusioned, baffled, to say the least. Sad for the animals.

Got a new buddy today at High Country Humane! What a great experience. We did a meet and greet with a trainer to see how our dog would be with another. What a highly experienced staff and a great overall adoption experience. Super clean facilities and lots of yard space for them.

I recently adopted Charlie from high country and it was the best exsperince I have ever had! The man who helped me find her new each dog individually ( and helps train them to be ready for there new home) and was able to figure out just by a dogs name who the dog was and who he thought would be the best fit! And boy he was right! Charlie has been the best dog, and I will forever greatful for high country humanie❤️! THANK YOU

My husband and I did everything in our power to help this stray dog, but having a dog that wouldn’t get along with the stray dog we had to give her to a shelter or rescue. We assumed the humane society would take her and then she would find a loving family. But when we showed up they people were so rude and made my husband feel like we were just dumping her on the side of the street, and then they WOULD NOT TAKE HER! So we had to drive to Phoenix to find a home for the dog. I will, until the day I die, warn people from this terrible place.

I absolutely LOVE High Country! The staff is always super kind and helpful the few times I've been out! I had to take a stray cat I found out there, and they ended up finding the cats original owner and got him back to her, healthy and happy!! I adopted my own baby from here a few years ago, and was thrilled by both the facilities, and the clear love and care that goes into every animal they care for! I would ABSOLUTELY recommend High Country for any future (animal) family members! They'll make sure you and your new friend are perfect together!

Wow. I am APPALLED at some of these terrible reviews. None of these negative reviews accurately describe high country humane. As someone who fosters cats with this shelter, and has spent a lot of time being at a High Country, I have never, ever, had a bad experience with any employee, doctor, or volunteer. It is by far the best animal shelter in flagstaff, Arizona. The staff is wonderful. They are reliable, professional, patient, kind, accommodating, and you can tell that the people who work here care about all of the animals immensely. I’ve witnessed members of the staff deal with incredibly rude clients in a positive and respectful manner, and they always want to help every client that comes in, no matter the reason. High Country prioritizes the animals, which is an important trait for a great animal shelter to have. They have been very, very busy lately with new strays & surrendered animals being brought in almost daily, so please don’t be upset if your needs are not met as soon as you arrive to the shelter. Please be patient with them, they are working so hard. As for people being upset about costs or fees, these policies are there for a reason and they are not here to take your money just for the sake of making a profit. Ridiculous accusations I’ve seen about that. Remember that cats, kittens, dogs, and all other animals are under a lot of stress for many reasons while in the shelter. The animals should always come first and High Country specializes in placing them in good homes and putting our furry friends well-being above everything else. I am so lucky to be able to foster with High Country Humane and watch employees work wonders at their jobs. I am so proud of High Country as a whole for doing an amazing job.

So looking for a kitten to grow up in a farm setting for my family and son. They don't let you see them unless your "for sure adopting then and there!" And won't let you adopt just one. "For stress reasons". There cats! So disappointing. If I don't click with a cat I'm not getting it. That's how they are supposed to work. You find one that chooses you.

Rude and inconsiderate staff. If you want to pick out a cat look elsewhere.

We are in Love with our new forever family member! High County Humane Society made the process easy as we spent time with him, asked tons of questions then they walked us through the adoption process. Thank you for getting him ready with shots, neutering and socializing, our puppy making for a smooth transition to our home.????

Nothing but bad experiences from this shelter. Petsmart had cats from this shelter to be adopted. I went in with the intent to adopt a kitten because my cat at home seems lonely and needs a friend. I found one that I really bonded with and when I was helped by the volunteer, I was told that if I wanted to adopt him, I would have to adopt the other one in the cage as well, even though they were not a bonded pair. They said that the kittens wouldn’t have a good life if they didn’t grow up with another kitten. I was also told by the volunteer that “I was trying to replace my other cat with a kitten.” They also turned down another customer (a middle aged couple) because they didn’t was to adopt 2 cats. How are they expecting for people to adopt the kittens if they are turning people away! Some people can’t afford or don’t have the facilities to adopt 2 cats at once. There were at least 30 cats last week and when I went back today only 1 had been adopted. These poor animals are missing out on amazing homes because the workers are too picky. With all being said, if you want to adopt 2 kittens at once and you have nothing but free time, then this is the place for you.

Me and my friend came in today on 8/25 to see some kittens because we are thinking of adopting and at first it was fine. The front desk girl with blackish brown hair allowed us to see the kittens. After a few short minutes, another person came to us and pretty much rushed us out of there. They expected us to make a decision right there and then. And it was disrespectful. She stated that they are “busy” and how we need to hurry. However, if you have a customer, no matter who they are, you serve them and be patient with them. Not rush them out and ask you “so which one do you want?” I believe our age gave them the impression that they could just treat us that way. I am very upset at how our experience was and don’t appreciate it at all.

Large facility. Caring employees. Can streamline process. More social media. Been following HCH on social media for a while. Finally had the chance to visit in-person today while visiting Timberline Firearms and Training. Friendly staff greeted me. You cannot just walk through the kennels housing the animals - it's too disruptive to the animals. Instead, there is a wall of photos and descriptions of the dogs. If you see one you are interested, they will bring it out to you in either a field or shaded, fenced area to see if it's a fit. They were VERY busy and appeared to be short-staffed on the Saturday I visited. They should make a video about the adoption process and let new visitors see the video to help expedite the process. More social media videos about the animals please! Tell a story about the animals in the video. I think that will drive more traffic / awareness about the number of fur babies that need homes. Do it via Live and no editing needed. Make it simple and organic. Adoption is an emotional process. Although it's routine for the staff, it's a big emotional investment for the family. Understanding that the staff and guests are both stressed will go a long way.

Went to visit with some elderly, and they would not allow us back to see the dogs. They didn't offer any assistance and also when we were looking at the kittens they told us we were blocking the hallway. Sad day today. I am very disappointed ????.

I just went to the Saturday shot clinic at High Country Humane. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. The clinic was very (COVID) safe and they had everyone wait in their cars for a staff member to come out and pick up the pets that needed to be vaccinated. All three of my puppies (that had been rescued from the middle of the highway 2 days prior) came back happier than when they went in to get their shots. No appointment needed, first come first serve, and the vet was able to give me an approximate age for all three of my new family members. Thank you! <3

High Country Humane (HCH) in Flagstaff is wonderful, so I ask the community to please help give "a shout out of support" to this great non-profit organization! HCH continues to help so many animals and families in the Flagstaff community. I started as a volunteer about 3 months ago, and the HCH staff I've worked with do an excellent job with taking such AMAZING and loving care of the animals that come in and need help! Thank you HCH and staff, for all that you do and for being angels for the animals you help!

Me and my boyfriend had set up a meet up to meet a dog named jojo, i had been in contact with the foster parents and had been told everything should be okay , we came in met jojo and we just needed him to meet our dog, the foster parents were very nice people but the lady who works at the shelter made us feel like we were not worthy of adopting a dog. She told us that jojo did well with other dogs. Just for her to tell us that we couldnt adopt him due to jojo fighting other dogs . then she showed us a wall full of dogs that were available for adoption. Just for none of them to not be available to adopt. She made us feel like she was just making excuses just for us to walk away empty handed. She wasnt compassionate at all and wasnt very welcoming. The front desk lady wasnt even nice or compassionate It was just a horrible experience bcus we werent able to adopt any dog. Like as if she looked at us and thought we were unworthy of having another dog. Excuses after excuses. Why are there available dogs yet you cant even see them? Like some dogs u cant adopt due to them not wanting to put on a leash.. Nobody was friendly at all. And it makes me so sad that none were available yet on the availability wall...

I've adopted two animals from High Country Humane. The staff is extremely knowledgeable about every single animal they help. They truly care and want to make sure that every pet is a good fit for the family that adopts them.

I went in to adopt a dog today. I met a sweet dog who had within the last couple weeks been adopted and then returned. HOW SAD! She was in this small tiny box room covered in urine and feces, So I wanted to save her. I inquired about the fees that had been paid by the prior adopting party for neuter, vaccinate, chip and exam, the employee and management told me I would have to pay for all the fees for the services and procedures all over again even though they were already done. I really wanted to take that dog home to be a part of our family but the $200 was just so steep. I also was aware of a very large donation covering adoption fees for the animals over the weekend were paid so I did not think that deducting the service fees that had already been done from the adoption fee would be such a big deal. But it was and the manager was awful. I contacted the director Liz Olson and she had one of the ugliest and unethical views and made it quite clear they do not care about the animals at this place they just care about making money off of them and charging outrageous fees for “caring” for them when they are treated very poorly. The priority here should be a good home for the animals. And IT IS NOT! I made the comment that they seemed to care more about making money off this poor animal then it being adopted and going to a good home. They manager said it was none of my business what the fees really went to and it was all none profit. She just kept talking about money. This establishment is fraudulent in what they publicly propose as far as prioritizing animal adoption. Gross

I volunteer at High Country, and I see firsthand how loving and caring they are with the animals in their care. I can’t say enough good things about the staff, as well as the cleanliness and professionalism they exhibit daily. I am proud to be affiliated with High Country Humane????
