Dr. Shelnut hands-down is one of the most honest people i have ever met and his knowledge is second to none. Dr Shellnut and his staff are wonderful. I have a rescue dog who was taken from a fighting ring. She had been used as a "bait dog" and is terrified of other dogs. She is always allowed into a room separated from other dogs as soon as we arrive. She likes going to "See Dr Ben."

(Posted this on their Facebook page back in October 2020 but my opinion is still very true) 10/10 recommend. I have been bringing my dog here since he was an 8 weeks old puppy and have always had a great experience bringing him to Family Pet Care. I moved to the Atlanta area for college 5 years ago but I still refuse to take my dog anywhere else for routine annual check-ups, dental work, surgeries, etc because I appreciate how Dr.Shelnutt always takes his time to thoroughly check my fur baby and always provides him with the best care. Unfortunately, on the handful of occasions that I have had to take my dog elsewhere for a vet visit here in ATL (due to it being an emergency/the only thing that works with my unpredictable schedule since I can't always make the 1 hr&15 min drive to Lagrange when something unexpectedly happens with my dog's health), none of the vets have ever compared to the type of compassion and care that Dr.Shelnutt shows to his patients. Recently, my dog had been experiencing a lot of urinary problems and was misdiagnosed by a vet in the atl area with having a large tumor in his bladder and was said to have bladder cancer without running any diagnostics to confirm said diagnosis. Instead, they simply told me that there was no hope for treatment for my dog, aside from chemotherapy, due to his small size and left me with no guidance or further treatment options. Sadly, the soonest appt I could get with an oncology specialist was 2 and a half weeks out. However, once I informed Dr.Shelnutt of said diagnosis at my dog's yearly check up/vaccine visit, he immediately did his own evaluation and didn't agree with the said diagnosis and performed a diagnostic test that checks for bladder tumors to give me some peace of mind until I visited the oncologist. The diagnostic test came back negative but we still kept my oncology appt just to be sure. Fast forward to this week on Monday, the oncologist said that my dog just had bladder stones and not a tumor. I immediately called Family Pet Care and informed Dr.Shelnutt of the news and asked when I could bring him in for surgery considering he had been dealing with this issue for so long. Fortunately, Dr.Shelnutt was able to fit my dog into his schedule the very next day for surgery. Yesterday, after he finished surgery on my dog, he called me himself to inform me on how the operation went and that all was well. He also took the time to thoroughly explain all the post-op instructions and answered all of my questions and concerns. This is the type of compassion and due diligence that I have never found anywhere else for my dog and why I continue to make the drive to Lagrange to see Dr.Shelnutt for my dog's vet visits. He really is the best! Now my sweet fur baby is currently resting as he heals from his major surgery and I am so thankful to know that he will be back to feeling better soon and that he is always in such great hands when he goes to Family Pet Care in Lagrange. A huge thank you goes out to Dr.Shelnutt and his wonderful staff!! Y'all are wonderful!

Dr. Shellnut is a caring doctor. He is very considerate of your pet and you as the owner. Takes time to explain options. When explaining your options he tells you about all treatment available then what he recommends. Pricing is reasonable. Was open as soon as possible during COVID situation.
