Steel City Emergency Vets is a much needed addition for emergency pet care. My sweet 15 year old kitty became very ill over New Years and while they were extremely busy, Dr. Jessie Caver was very caring, compassionate and patiently …

I trust these people when my vet is closed like nights and weekends. The best emergency vet I have used. I wish they had opened up many years before they did.

I cannot recommend Steel City Emergency Vets highly enough. They showed such compassion and care for our little dog Penny. Even when we had to put her to sleep, the caring vets and employees at SCEV made it so acceptable. I felt confident it was the right decision, with the help of Dr Irizarry and the sweet sweet staff. Especially a girl by the name of Tessa. They went above and beyond and I could not ask for a better experience. THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart.

They were there for my sweet Weezy when he had nowhere else to go. Caring and friendly staff and the euthanasia process was quick. They explained everything, were really nice and gave us time with our baby. Reasonable prices and seemed like they really cared. Would recommend. Thank you all for being there for us.

They didn’t catch that my kitten in fact was having neurological issues and that she did in fact have a skull fracture. They sent her home even with a swollen head and clear disorientation. Took her somewhere else and they showed heaps of more concern and immediately caught the skull fracture. I’ve heard steel city is great. But that was FAR from our experience.

I can’t say enough great things about Steel City Vets. They took such good care of my cat, Melon, and really helped me narrow down why she wasn’t eating. The doctor was very proactive with her treatment plan and they called regularly to give me updates and next steps. I had to call after I had picked her up to ask a question and the girl that answered told me how much she loved Melon which I thought was so sweet ???? I highly recommend taking your fur babies here if they need help!!

Steel City has been a phenomenal addition to Birmingham. Our dog almost died this past October, and the vets and staff were so compassionate, communicated with us regularly, and provided top-level medical care. Our dog has been back several times since, and each time we've been impressed at the level of professionalism and care. Highly recommend.

So thankful for the team here, especially when it’s close to midnight and options are slim. I brought my cat in for stitches and this place is great. It IS an emergency room so be prepared to wait and pay a chunk of change as you would anywhere else. Staff and doctors are amazing and my boy is quickly recovering. Thank you for all you do for our pets!

I only gave one star because no stars wasn’t an option. This place is owned by a crook, and is a scam.

My rabbit experienced an injury on her leg and we could not find any ER vets in the area that had rabbit savvy vets available and were open during the weekend. I called this clinic Saturday morning and was told that today (Sunday) they would have a rabbit savvy vet in. We headed over in the morning and dropped her off and waited in the parking lot. Soon after I received a call from Dr. Haley Burke. Haley was incredible. This was a very difficult day for me and I was filled with anxiety and panic, and she was by far the kindest vet I ever met. We spoke about the situation with my rabbits leg and discussed a few things. She then provided us with some medicine to temporarily reduce swelling on our bunny’s leg and told us to make an appointment at a (non emergency) vet or refer back to her to see if her leg reduces in swelling and we would go from there with treatment options. This was the best experience I’ve ever had. The two ladies in the front were extremely nice and accommodating , offered us drinks (soda, water) from the fridge, snacks, and overall had the BEST attitude I’ve ever seen. I wish I could give 100+ stars. The man who owns this clinic is doing an amazing job, and I will be forever grateful they were able to be there for me during a medically complex situation. Additionally the pricing was extremely affordable, very close to what you’d pay to be seen at a regular vet. May ???? and I can not thank them enough.

I had a need for an emergency vet Sunday night. My companion who has been my best friend since I got sick with COVID in March He has not left my side. I made no issue with taking him to get the help he needed. I carry pet insurance on my fur baby for these reasons. We made the decision to go to Steel City We got there at 9ish i was instructed to call poison control to see what they would advise the vet to do. I made the call and was charged $65 for the phone call to them. Toby was put in a room and we waited for about 30 mins before an assistant took him back. We were asked to wait outside at this point. About 30 more minutes passed before a dr called me and told me what their actions would be and I needed to come in for the estimate. Once back in the room again I was told they would need a 1300 deposit to start treating Toby. I did not have that much money to help my friend. I was told to apply for Care Credit or Scratch and even to call friends or family to borrow the money. I was beside myself. We finally reached an agreement to pay $800 that night so they would start treating my baby. My plan was to pick him up in the morning to take to my vet. When i called the next morning I got a complete turnaround in attitude from the vet. They were talking about their plan to keep him and do different things til Thursday. I told them I would be taking Toby to his vet. All of a sudden, attitude change again. When I arrived and settled his bill he was brought out to me with his bag of left over meds and no once of care for my baby. I was told they would give me his records but I was not given them. Thankfully my baby will be ok and his normal vet is taking great care of him. I pray I never find myself in need of an emergency vet again but I promise it will not be this one

I highly recommend Steel City Emergency Vet. They are very kind and knowledgeable. My older Yorkie had to be seen there and they took him back immediately and began care. I find them thorough and competent. I will use them again!

I can’t say enough good things about the staff and doctors at this facility. They have treated our canines with care and urgency. They were very thoughtful during a process when we had to unexpectedly say goodbye over a weekend. Highly recommend Steel City!

We had to say goodbye to our baby unexpectedly last night. The entire staff was so incredibly kind, compassionate, and loving to our dog in his last moments. They explained everything very thoroughly and gave us time to love on our boy before he passed. They treated him and us with such dignity and respect. We were such a mess but they handled the situation very respectfully especially afterwards, when we had to checkout after saying goodbye to our loved companion. I really would recommend this place because of the way they treated us and our baby Diesel. They offer a military discount and asked us (we wouldn’t think to ask for it because of our emotional state). Attached is a picture of our happy boy before he passed. I wanted a happy image to remain in my mind and this vet office really made sure our baby was happy and taken care of in his last moments. RIP Diesel.

We had a small problem with one of our cats, and I seriously couldn’t recommend anyone better! All the staff was very friends and helpful, and we were in and out in 20 minutes. They had a comfortable waiting area too. One of the best emergency vets in Birmingham.

I loved my experience here. They took great care of my dog, Honey, after a dog bit her neck.

Steel City Vet is more concerned about taking your money than helping your pet. If you love your animal then do not carry them there! Besides a very rude weekend staff that is very unprofessional with no communications skills, they do not perform the task that they charge you for and I'm still waiting on their financial manager's call plus still waiting on the digital x-rays that I was told that would be emailed to me. They took us for over $1300.00 and lied to us about everything. They do not have any respect for senior citizens or people with disabilities! Only thing we got was robbed out of our money and our precious dog left in worse condition than when we made the mistake of taking her to them!

We woke up on a Sunday morning with our dog sick. We were in town visiting friends and made an account and set up an appointment for 1115 as it prompted us to and we were under the impression we needed to just to come in. It turns out that appts mean nothing. We could have left to get our dog medical care at 0800, but instead we waited until the appt and then was told, "yeah it prompts you to make an appointment but those don't actually mean anything. It's still a 3 hour wait." and I probably would have let it go, but I was offered no apology and the worker was very rude about it. Don't offer appts if they mean nothing. It's disrespectful to other people's time and it delays treatment for pets. We ended up leaving and going elsewhere.

I am so thankful for the whole clinic! My poor dog Jet got in a dog fight and his normal vet was closed so we found this clinic! Everyone was so nice and informative and so well reassuring. I’ve always been scared to leave my dog anywhere but I felt comfortable that he was in good hands! He had to go do a little surgery and they called me at 12 in the morning to come get him, which is perfect because I didn’t have to leave him to long! If I ever have another emergency I know I’ll be coming back here for sure!

I couldn't have asked for a more thoughtful and caring staff to help us with the passing of our precious cat. If you are considering going here, rest assured that your pet, and you, will be taken care of.

I was in town visiting family for the July 4th holiday. My baby was not feeling well and definitely not acting like himself. My mom and I took Hank to SCEV. The staff was kind and caring. They quickly diagnosed him and took care of the problem. We were in and out in about 2 hours. Dr. Harris, and the entire staff, was amazing! The costs were reasonable, way less than what I anticipated. I would recommend to anyone! Thank you SCEV!

I took my dog here when she was bleeding profusely. The vets weren't the friendliest people I've ever met, but they did a good job with her. The waiting room is very comfy. I'd definitely go back.

I was not very fond of this place. I was told when I got there i had to wait in my car until they was done with my dogs x-rays. After they would come get me so I could see my dog. They never let me in. I was told they gave her pain medication twice but they only gave it to her once. Then when the two ladies brought her back to my car on the stretcher one of the ladies almost dropped my dog and laughed about it. My dog was hit by a car. She could not walk. She couldn't even stand or sit. I don't think it was funny hearing my dog cry in pain while almost being dropped on the concrete. They wanted me to leave her there till closing which was three more hours but they wanted to charge me an extra 500 to 700. That's ridiculous to charge that much extra just for fluids and a catheter.
